Election time coming and the MPs and Councillors should be listening more keenly.

The labour and lib Dems are a lost cause on speed cameras as they are clearly dominated by the "let everyone use bycycles" brigade".

So that leaves the Tories.

The degree of control/influenced by each Council over the Partnership it is in clearly varies.

In Bromley the Council quite clearly keep a firm grip and have not permitted any for 10 yrs according to its Cllr George Taylor.

Other Councillors I have contacted have almost no influence on their scameras even where they have the Transport portfolio. they seem either uninterested or dont know that they can have a say.

So why are other Consevative controlled Councils unable/unwilling to do likewise?

What if we focused a letter/email campaign onto those Councils asking why they were not following the Conservative party line?

But what is the Conservative party line?

Quote:
Shadow Transport Secretary Damian Green, said in Aug 2004 "Stressing that speed cameras are justified if sited in genuine accident black spots and if they save lives - but not as easy money making machines - Mr Green pledged that an incoming Conservative administration would review all speed limits, abolish cash-guzzling Safety Camera Partnerships...."

Is this the sort of Britain we want ? ............... Where there is a speed camera round every corner not to make us safer but to lighten our pockets?

Thoughts?

John Redwood has a confession to make.

He is a motorist, and enjoys driving. But he is fed up with speed cameras that are there to make money.

"Five years into the camera madness," he says "deaths are up on our roads."

"The government is targeting speed but its own figures show that speed is not normally the cause of accidents."
