Why has this Google news search suddently started giving all sorts of results that do not include 'safespeed'?

http://news.google.co.uk/news?ie=UTF-8& ... &scoring=d

What's going on here then?

I think.........

When you google safespeed in news, you come up with loads of safespeed matches. The top result is a set of 2 articles, one of which (M.E.N.) includes a reference to safespeed. Remove the filtering (~30 omitted results, usually omitted because they are identical to others) plops M.E.N. down the bottom. The other results are from a common source, most are from:
"ic[site].co.uk", the rest probably copied, hence they are all the same and none include a reference to safespeed.

All those ic(blah) sites are carrying (the same) copy from the Press Association.

It's possible that the rest are associated with safespeed via the MEN article, but it's never happened before.

I've had two thoughts:

- PA changed the copy, removing the safespeed reference.
- Someone has paid Google to return 'other' stuff when a search on 'safespeed' is performed. Can you do that?

It's definitely strange.

Whatever the cause, at least it has not continued. Looks like it was due to a reference to 'safespeed' in the 'master' story in the group of stories.

I havent looked at your search, but a while back I did a search for incidents attributed to peanut allergies, and after 25 pages (50 to a page) of results, not one story cropped up!

Apparently, the American peanut growers had "snowballed" the search engines by releasing dozens of "information" pages of their own, and publicised them via "recipe" pages of magazines and periodicals, and media programs.

The number of hits generated had pushed down the stories of problems!

Could this happen to you?
