I'm now starting to work on a series of PDF factsheets as follows:

01 Claims of crash reductions 'at speed camera sites'
02 How many crashes are caused by 'speeding'?
03 Speed camera side effects
04 Why drivers speed
05 The truth about pedestrian impact speeds
06 The 1 mph lie
07 It isn't physics!
08 Safe Speed manifesto
09 ???
10 ???

Progress is bloody slow - it's taken a good couple of weeks to come up with some basic graphic design elements. I've decided to do the job in Page Plus 9 which seems to generate decent PDFs. I'm still doing some tweaks to the layout, but very soon I'm going to want to be doing the writing and the layout work.

Are there any DTP / technical author types hereabouts that would like to assist me in getting this stuff out faster?

The real target market is journalists. I'm going to encourage folk to send a Safe Speed fact sheet to any journalist who repeats any of the standard lies or errors that the factsheets are intended to dispel.

Any important subjects I've missed (in the context of the stated purpose)?

I think there needs to be one that strongly emphasises the SafeSpeed message of "never exceed the safe speed for the circumstances". It's an important message that ought to be an area of common ground between us and the scam fans. Having established that it's important for drivers to remain within the safe speed for the conditions the factsheet can then go into all the reasons why the scams and current policies do little or nothing for this.

It might also be worth having one about the pre-scam days and how we ended up with the world's safest roads with the three Es and not a scamera to be seen? Contrast with the safety record of scammed up Britain... .

Oh, and I think the stuff on http://www.safespeed.org.uk/rules.html about scam placement is a corker and may deserve a sheet all to itself. Worth having to mail out to local journos when they run some "local residents demand camera" article.

How about adding a sheet for "what Scameras don't pick up"

This information sheet can set out the case & support with the increasingly glum stats on rising aggression, driving while drunk/uninsured/unlicensed, etc, etc, etc.
(criticism can also include an extrapolation of what the 'real' (i.e. higher) incidences could be because of lack of active enforcement!

SS - TIE THIS UP with my mp lobby idea - lobby all mps before the election, make them work for the motorist vote. Maybe then our cash -= representation.

The american colonists had a phrase - no taxation without representation -
Perhaps we should make it ours
