It seems the police state think that driving slowly causes accidents... :loco:

Inspector Smith said: "The M4 is a fast moving motorway with lots of traffic and not the place to hold a protest.

"I'd look to regulate a second protest under the Public Order Act - the last thing we'd want to do is cause any more accidents by allowing another similar protest to take place."

Fast moving....but not too fast otherwiswe you get busted... :o

Sounds like they are starting to throw the toys out of the pram.....great.
Strange it took so long to get a reaction.

BTW it would be interesting to know if there was an accident on the same bank holiday week end last year when there was no protest...

I wonder if they could bust the caravan club under the Public Order Act....they drive slow...

After all there is NO minimum speed limit on the motorway.

So ... Wildy :neko: and self tootle up the motorway and come across a load of advisory speeds on gantries and centrral reserve - showing advisory of 30/40 mph .

True to type - no hazard - but in rare surge of "obedience" - we choose to heed this warning....

Looks like this is now deemed far too dangerous :? to comply with

OK  Shall do what we've always done and choose a safe speed for the conditions....

too fast... not safe --- too slow ... not safe... all accidents are caused buy speed... have we heard this before!

When will these monotone short planks realise that driving is about observing, leaving enough space, good visability and good road surfaces whic drain water are far more important!
 end of rant!

I was just about to post that link

If speed really does kill surely driving at 56mph is super-safe?

According to Inspector Smith it's not.

Over 70 is dangerous and so is 56? So logically, by extrapolating that, there must be some magical speed where its impossible to have an accident.

If 56mph is dangerous, why on earth have they been limiting HGV's to that speed for years??

Only if everything and everyone else is also doing zero mph - even then a tree could still fall on top of you and squish you.

I wonder what offence he would be trying to use, the Public order act lists the following

Public Order: Collective Trespass or Nuisance on Land
Powers to remove trespassers on land
61. Power to remove trespassers on land.
62. Supplementary powers of seizure.

Powers in relation to raves
63. Powers to remove persons attending or preparing for a rave.
64. Supplementary powers of entry and seizure.
65. Raves: power to stop persons from proceeding.
66. Power of court to forfeit sound equipment.

Retention and charges for seized property
67. Retention and charges for seized property.

Disruptive trespassers
68. Offence of aggravated trespass.
69. Powers to remove persons committing or participating in aggravated trespass.

Trespassory assemblies
70. Trespassory assemblies.
71. Trespassory assemblies: power to stop persons from proceeding.

Squatters
72. Violent entry to premises: special position of displaced residential occupiers and intending occupiers.
73. Adverse occupation of residential premises.
74. Protected intending occupiers: supplementary provisions.
75. Interim possession orders: false or misleading statements.
76. Interim possession orders: trespassing during currency of order.

Powers to remove unauthorised campers
77. Power of local authority to direct unauthorised campers to leave land.
78. Orders for removal of persons and their vehicles unlawfully on land.
79. Provisions as to directions under s. 77 and orders under s. 78.
80. Repeal of certain provisions relating to gipsy sites.

I really don't know what Public order violation he believes will have been committed besides which the right to Protest is a "Human Right".

Bring it on its time to force their hand, lets have another protest and have them obstruct us, arrest us or back down, lets see what that does for the inspectors carrer prospects. We have another Bank Holiday coming same place?

I was thinking about this the other day.

Didn't they use those fancy new matrix signs to warn of slow moving traffic ahead? Or were they all showing the usual waste of attention such as "don't drive with your eyes closed"?

If the protest is regarding a subject that is likely to stir up thoughts that the majority of the (voting) populous feel strongly about, then they will soon find a law they can use to nick you. If they can't find one, then you can rest assured that somebody will think one up and it will be rushed through Parliament in double quick time.

i notice the authorities never mentioned anything about this when the fuel protests were on (which had much bigger, more widespread "go slows" which went alot slower.

maybe cos the softy chief constable wouldnt dare take on the hauliers but sees motorists in cars as an easy target? i really do dispair for the state of the corruption and inconsistencies in authorities, law and order etc in this country. says alot about the state of humanity that they would put cams and cops everywhere to spy on people for minor offences and ban them from protesting about it.

and how is it that war protestors are allowed to shut off all of central london for entire saturdays and they get away with it scott free? and they know they aint got a chance in hell of stopping blair and his wars with pretendy reasons behind them
