I've just done a bit of googling for County council plans and every single council who's plan is published for 2005 has speed limit reduction as a priority.

Key issues:

Still quoting the 1/3rd lie.
Still claiming 1mph reduction = 5% reduction in casualties
Still claiming that safe roads are enabled by lower speeds
Still planning widespread replacement of NSL's with 40mph limits.

and just recently I've seen some New 50mph limits replaced with 30 MPH limits

campaigning about speed cameras is all well and good, but few partnership are actually investing in fixed cameras (no revenue opportunities left) but actively creating 'Speeding' problems to allow wider enforcement.

take an NSL with an 85th percentile of 55mph - this road doesn't have a speeding problems reduce the speed limit to 50mph - avg speed drops 4mph. lower it again to 40 again 4mph drop and again to 30 and now we get avg. 42mph - perfect for enforcing.

I think we need some messages that people can use to challenge council road safety plans.

Good idea, I definitely want to challenge my local council who are out of control with regards to stupid new limits.
