Since the M4 Protest on 30th April we have received NO REPORTS of camera vans on M4 overbridges.

Did we win?

Or has anyone seen a camera van?

Can we check the location schedule. It has to be put in the local paper, also on the BBC local news web site.

Update...

I have just look on the web. The BBC have got mobile sites listed for some areas (leicester being one..http://www.bbc.co.uk/leicester/content/articles/2004/07/02/speed_camera_listings_feature.shtml)

But it is inconsistant depending on where you live.

I wonder if this is a trend to withdraw mobile camera information.

I was on the M4 the week after the protest and there was a van on the bridge just east of the Chippenham exit

They couldn't have paid much attention to the protest, as I always see plod spread eagle over his hot rod both sides of the M4 layby's 8-)

And the bum in the van :( was perched over the carriageway last week.

Those who travel this part of the M4 will also be aware of the Stupid speed limits going through the road works, or should I say Banking works

They have huge protective barriers on the eastern carriageway with a speed limit of 40MPH, and further down the M4 more banking works but no barriers and a 50MPH limit

plonkers

I wrote somewhere on this forum about plod and his unmarked focus, if you travel around the area keep a look out for a light green unmarked focus, boot up, you will see him hidden between the rear seats, I stopped and took a photo of him, he got all aggressive and demanded I delete the photo or I would be arrested, I explained to him it wasn’t my fault his big fat lazy belly and his poorly parked girls car was in my way while trying to photograph Machen mountain

Regards

Martin

They must visit mobile site atleast once a month or they have to de-list it and remove the camera signs.

It looks like a token effort to maintain the site

I know what you mean although this wasn’t a camera site; this was at a pull in on the side of a duel carriageway

When we eventually got talking and I was shown around the equipment, he explained the reason for being there
Again this camera operator is the same guy that sits over the seven bridge so the logic they apply to the bridge is being applied to this and other road policy decisions

He commented that the duel carriageway speed limit was going to be lowered as on occasions he has clocked people travelling in excess of 100MPH (which isn’t hard on this road)

So rather than enforce the 70MPH they are going to reduce it to 50MPH and sting us all

Common sense really isn’t it

Regards

Martin

I would love to;

I think my story would be about me in the cells if I still had them

I was ordered to delete them or face the consequences, without knowing how I stood legally I deleted them

Regards

Martin

I’m of to leatherhead this afternoon; I will look out for the van over the bridge and get the GPS location

See you all tomorrow

:o :o :o :o

You need to complain about the officer's conduct! Do it now!

He may have committed a crime by making that unsubstantiated threat.

In the "my word against a coppers word" scenario who do you think would get the kick up the arse

I have no trust in the injustice system to side with me, I left a post on the speedtrap bible site years ago, I photographed a bunch of coppers, 2 Volvo's, 3 motorbikes, and a speed scam van all waiting to pull speeding motorists a few years back near Merthyr Tydfil
During a time when the local council wanted to put up our council tax as they didn’t have enough coppers in the area

The police entered my car without my permission, took the camera and deleted the photos, then charged me with taking photos while driving, obviously I couldn’t then prove I took the pictures while stationery

A bike followed me all of the way home, so close to my bumper all I could see of him was his police badge on the bike visor

Cut a long story short, I complained to Blackwood police headquarters, three months later the fine was dropped and I received a letter warning me of my conduct in future

One day that copper will need my help, he had better not look in my direction for it

Regards

Martin

leaving now, speak tomorrow

Not exactly about seeing cameras -it's a pistonhead report obout data unearthed by ABD on the data used to support the aplication - like a death where a pedestrian fell off the bridge ( could be speed related ( )or just bitter) , a car driving the wong way ( negative speed??)

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/speed/defa ... ryId=11392

ABD road safety spokesman Mark McArthur-Christie said: "These statistics show clearly that speed is far from the most significant factor in crashes - but no matter what the causes, the Partnership still thinks cameras are the solution.

Good answer. :D I'll have to remember that one if I ever get the same chance - it's not like they can check what's really in the photo until I develop the film :)

I think that he probably had no right to make that demand and was just indulging in a pretty disgraceful abuse of position. Who's to say you weren't going to crop out the ugly distraction in the bottom of your mountain photograph?
