Interesting that they felt to point out the requirement to keep number plates clear in the new version of the hwc.

Policing by robot not working???

223. Before you set off
• you MUST be able to see, so clear all snow and ice from
all your windows
• you MUST ensure that lights are clean and number plates
are clearly visible and legible
• make sure the mirrors are clear and the windows are
de-misted thoroughly.
Laws CUR reg 30, RVLR reg 23, VERA Sect 43 & RV(DRM)R reg 11

I've noticed quite a few cars of late with completely unreadable dirty number plates. Sadly, since the trafpol have been replaced with cameras there is no one to make them clean up.

What is the penalty for a dirty plate by the way? How many points?

thats the point really. Having a dirty/broken plate is very low risk

30 quid and no points.

Wait till having a dirty /broken number plate, or letters/characters in an illegal font type becomes endorsable (won't be long).
Also, expect to see "pursuit squads" of Trafpol whose sole job is to apprehend anyone with any of the above.

Its a bit dissapointing that so few people are interesting in influencing the new HWC.

Fair point, but ask yourself, next time you are queued up on a motorway, how many of the 'blands' around you have even looked at the cover of one since they were forced to for their test....

I used to carry one with me in the car to wave at transgressors until one day someone frowned at the book an shrugged as if to say 'Wossat?'.

I now carry Ref's red and yellow cards - far more civilised than flailing various digits at idiots and curiously effective...

You don't think that the public consultation has anything to do with influencing the content of the HWC do you?

If you don't contribute - you can't complain.

they also have to publish the results of the consultation - I do think they may pick one or two nuggets from the feedback or face the PR they had over the speed limit review

it just allows the Daily Mail set a chance to have hanging introduced,
Public consultation only gets the people who can be bothered to reply which means they usually have an axe to grind, so ask the right people and you have 50% plus support for your changes
