Have we got any aspiring newsletter editors / creators here?

It would be great to publish a monthly newsletter - probably as a PDF for download.

The 'raw material' is right here in the forums and in Safe Speed PRs. We could also add content from Safe Speed web pages.

I don't believe I can find the time, so I'm looking for someone to take it on. Anyone?

I could give that a go. I'd need a rough idea on the layout and a list of articles, PRs to include each month so there is a thread of thought going along between issues.

Submissions from others to the newsletter would need to be in a standard form to reduce the amount of editing and fiddling about needed.

Great stuff! Thanks. Should we carry on and see if we can build a little team to do the job? Or is it better for one chap to have 'full control'?

And how about a one-off graphic design job from someone to get the stylesheets or templates really good? Any graphic designers here?

What software would you choose to use Teabelly?

I'm not sure on numbers in a team. It depends on what skills people have to offer. 3 is probably the largest number you'd want. It would be useful to have at least one other person to check what you have made in case you have let through typos or other sillies.

I'd probably use either Scribus or Open Office to generate the pdfs. It depends on what turns out to be the easiest :) They're both free and open source so easy for others to use if need be. I shall have a look around for pre-existing newsletter templates which we could alter to our own ends. No point reinventing the wheel if we can borrow someone elses!

These are the words that I would want to describe the design:

'professional'
'technical and scientific'
'easy to read'
'understated'
'modern'
'trustworthy'

I've had a go at subverting another template. A pdf output from this template with all their default wording is here:

Newsletter

Is that the kind of thing you had in mind? The font is Times New Roman. The colour red is hopefully the same as used in the existing logo.

I'm going to have to think about this. It's important that we get it right. I've roughly been around the loop before. See: http://www.safespeed.org.uk/forum/viewt ... 1586#21586

Now I want to use the opportunity to add one or two new house colours. I think we're going to have a 'duck egg blue' and dark grey text. I also need to integrate the newsletter graphic design with the graphic design of the new 'Safe Speed light' web site. I'll try and get some of this stuff nailed down this evening.

I'd also very much like to come up with a title for the newsletter.

Maybe: 'Moving Forwards - news from the Safe Speed road safety campaign'. Suggestions welcome. Driving forwards? Safety next? Safety forwards? Real safety? Going safely?

Safely does it. Safety now. Real road safety starts here. Safely forward. Safety future. Onward safely. Driving safety home. Driving safety forward.

Have you decided on which or whether to use a content management system for the safespeed light?
