Following on from a brainstorming thread, I thought it might be of interest doing a poll of peoples reasons for coming here.

I guess "saw a link somewhere" will be popular - and may well be true for me. However, my reason for seeking out something like this site was what I ticked - cameras made me feel usafe. I just know they are counter to road safety.

Well I was actually looking for photos of blown up speed cameras. Unfortunately I found some otherwise I would have to have made my own, wouldn't I?
Then I started finding links and interesting information about them, including PePiPoo and the M4 protest, which linked here. Or at least that's how I remember it.
So I guess I was looking for said pictures because I disliked speed cameras because they made me feel unsafe.

We missed out on the fairly large groups who follow up on press or broadcast work.

Perhaps, more importantly, we should ask - how can we keep them here?

Mine isn't up there.

A general sense of frustration and injustice.

Got an NIP 6 weeks after an alledged offence. Decided to stand and fight (defending myself).........and won.

I was so incensed by my treatment and the injustice of the system I vowed to fight the SCPs any way I could.

Got a NIP and wasn't happy with the replies I was getting from the SCP after questioning the sigthing of a mobile speed camera. Found this site while looking for guidelines on the placement of mobile speed cameras. I’ve also covered a fair amount of miles in the last five years and had already started to belief that speed cameras and most of the road restrictions being forced upon us where doing nothing for road safety. After lurking for some time I decided to support the SafeSpeed campaign in the hope that it will help get the roads back where they were before this government and it's SCP's got hold of them :( .

I came here in my first months of driving.
I was trying to find out about cameras, how they worked, and general advice. It did not seem right that I spent more time worrying about cameras and my speed, rather than my driving technique. Most of the other sites I went to for advice just told me to stay within the speed limits, and offered little other advice.

I saw an 'advert' for the M4 protest in the local rag, went to the protest site and got linked here.

I started working nights about 18 miles away and have to take a stretch of the A5 littered with cameras every day. People braking hard in front of me for the small strech of road occupied by a camera to avoid detection started to irritate me, and speed cameras in general seemed to make little sense to me, so I decided to read up about them on the internet and via a search engine I eventually got here.

I have been reading this site without joining and ultimately decided to make it official when I took a trip to the Derbyshire Dales a couple of days ago and realised the inconsistencies of what the signs were telling me. Some of the narrow, winding roads of the Peak District were supposed to be National Speed Limit, whereas some of the straight roads coming out of Derbyshire towards the M1 were littered with 30 & 40-zones with speed cameras. The cameras seemed to occupy the only areas where it would be entirely safe to accelerate and absent in the places that really required lower speeds. It's a no-brainer that going purely by the signs and cameras on some of these meandering single-track roads would be a suicide mission, which obviously made me a bit angry when I got to the places where the only reason I couldn't increase my speed was the fear of being punished financially. So I joined to talk to like-minded people like you lot!

You've come to the right place - It's not rocket science for anyone to see the mess Road Safety policy is in. You've not been driving long but it's crystal clear in your mind.

Enjoy the forum...

I was searching for advanced driving sites and got drawn in by Paul's drive to improve the system as a whole not just the individual.

It may not be the primary role of the site but what I have learnt here has helped to improve my driving.

"Just wanted a rant about roads in general".

Never been done by a camera, I'm just angry (in general) at the lazy, incompetent, careless and greedy civil servants and politicians who lord it over us with a superiority complex knowing the general public are too stupid/ignorant/self serving to question such half assed shams as speed cameras in significant numbers.
