Will definately not pay £3.50, that is far too expensive in my book, an extra £7 for a return trip.
Personally I avoid the M6 and my route from Burnley to London is via Halifax and the M1. However I recently went to Kent with a mate to pick up some alloy wheels for his Rangey and he went both ways on the Toll, but I thought it was pretty busy! I'm not saying it was as busy as the normal M6, but it was certainly comparable to what most motoways are like during the day(not rush hour) and it was a Sunday!
Surely, the equation is going to be "cost of fuel by avoiding toll roads" against " cost of fuel + toll " using toll roads?
I for sure, will not use toll roads, unless it saves me money, for instance the severn bridge crossing, it is cheaper to go the old route, than use the bridge, but with a time penalty of about 1 hour, fuel costs will be less in a cheap car by going this way.
Also I now reject any job that involves the London tax/scam, (sorry I mean the "congestion charge scheme") as a matter of princible, I pay road tax to use the highways and byways of this fair (??) land and resent being charged for what I have already paid for, (also includes parking anywhere, which means I have moved all my business and shopping out to places where parking is FREE.
