What is your opinion of the verdict in the case of PC Mark Milton?
He should have been acquitted 35%  35%  [ 13 ]
The verdict was a reasonable compromise in the circumstances 24%  24%  [ 9 ]
He should have been severely punished 41%  41%  [ 15 ]

I haven't voted because I really don't know whether PC Milton was, or was not, guilty. However, the most disturbing aspect of this for me is double jeopardy. When presented with the evidence, the original court found him not guilty. Unless new evidence is presented, that should have been it no matter what the public outcry or the political incorrectness of that verdict.

AFAICT (but I don't know with complete certainty), no new evidence was presented at the second trial. However, it is inconceivable that the magistrates hearing the case would have no prior knowledge of such a high-profile case and there was probably media and political pressure to convict. I fail to see how PC Milton could have had a fair trial even if the second trial could be reconciled with human rights.
