Getting straight to the nub of it:

I thought the recent court case interpreted the current legislation as to allowing civvies, PCSOs or not, to operate hand-held speedmeters?

Smeggy,

I didnt know about the ruling...

I understand the PCSOs need to have a written authority to act at the roadside. I intend to and have in fact challenged the police on this matter.

I have since seen a PCSO with a PC at the place my wife was stopped This time the PC was operating the Laser. I think it not fair to have PCSOs operating these devices. From what I know, they do not have the power to form prior opinion about cars allegedly speeding on the road.

They cannot issue a endorsable FPN. my original request for advice was was it legal for two PCSOS to laser the wifes car. PC and PCSOs stop car..then PC issue FPN when she was not even dbeside the laser ..she was hiding around the corner.

Strange the police here now have the PC on the laser since our complaint

I have other points, if the PCSO was operating the laser, do they know if the laser was accurate and properly calibrated ???

I dont think people should face losing their licences on the back of evidence provided by second teir police operatives.

That is the basis of my request for advice...

If we're back to the point - and can keep away from the hurling, I'll leave this thread to run.

Roger,

that is fine with me...I have sent copies of our FPN and letter of complaint acknowledgment sent to us by the police to one of the mods.

It is a genuine gripe call it what you want...

Honestandy--olde fashioned phrase -"calm voice turns away wrath" ( and it also gets respect and support - something i suspect you need in here )----so turn off caps lock, stop shouting , and stop rising to baiting.(Advice methinks i need to take my self)(As you might have noticed i think PVCSO are a waste of space)

Where have you been? There was a fair amount of news coverage leading to the case (not much afterwards though)

This PePiPoo link should address most of your points.

Another news link

I think you should also seek advice from the guys at PePiPoo for your type of case.

Thank you,

Most interesting..

Im glad we paid the £60.00 fine and three points... :(

Still ...3 x fine and £140.00 plus hassle..

Interesting they did not try to query the qualifications and experience of the civilian operator. That is part of my complaint.

Our complaint also mentions them asking us to park on Double Yellow
lines and on a bend. Normally a FPN for that . It was dangerous where they asked us to park.. Dual standards perhaps ..
Can they tell you to commit an offence while they report you for a similar offence...??? seems silly to me ????

I don’t think parking on double yellows (temporarily) is quite as serious as Speeding....(allegedly)

Had people been doing 30mph, it shouldn’t have been very dangerous to park there temporarily unless it’s on a bend somewhere.
Unless of course people tend to do more than 30mph, which would have warranted the police presence there (and not just doing it for revenue  )

Firstly, all traffic cops are inexperienced at some time, and what qualifications do you mean? You don’t need qualifications to be a Traffic Cop, not one single GCSE.

But it’s worth asking the force, I’m sure they will let you know what goes in to the training to operate a laser and get a correct reading.

Regarding your screaming escapade earlier where you state the fine and letter of receipt was sent to the Mod’s, which mod was it? I will PM them and ask (not to see it) but if it was sent, then Andy I will gracefully apologize for squeezing at your credibility.

Fair?

Well I think, thanks to Smeggy, it appears for now anyway, PVCSOs and civilians can man the speed lasers.

Top marks Smeggy !!

Andy!!!

I figured it out!!!

You work for Securicor!!!

You drive around the vans transporting prisoners.

This is how I figured it out.

They drive around vehicles, which require a form of extended driver training (or as you like to put it, response driver training), you explained you are not exactly a Prison Officers, but kind of one…. And visit prisons, have some C & R training.

It’s all on the job description of the Prisoner Escort officers on the Securicor website!!

You work for G4S group 4 Securicor!!!

Sorry back on the subject, just so impressed with myself.

Right Speed Lasers …..

OK-****MIKE**** -lengths of posts , etc etc - i possible like others thought you were PVCSO .
Problem going down the PVCSO road is that now HMG needs community safety wardens, and local anti litter wardens, whereas before PC Plod, gave a gentle warning "put that in the bin" ---but then that don't earn cash.PVCSO can fine dog owners ( do dogs carry registration plates on their rear) if he /she can get details , can they stop them - can they f****.

It all boils down to wages and respect - pay peanuts - we get monkeys, and who respects a monkey with no teeth??? .

I think Boatch, it was established that the PCSOs could hold the Lasers, as the link posted suggested.

I agree Boatch…. I cant stand the PVCSOs…… there all scum.

Right, where will the Speed camera thread be moving to?

ok. I'll find a sensible incision point and segregate an appropriate part of this thread in the early hours when there is less traffic. What should it be called and where should it go?

How about "Stats and cameras" and how about putting it in "Improving Road Safety"? That will allow HA to continue his contentions in here and the (now moving forward well) debate currently at issue to continue.

Meanwhile please carry on here - with either/both aspects of the debate. I can unravel it provided no post spans both debates!

Before anything is locked or nuked or whatever, Smeggy, one of the only people who communicated on a reasonable level, thanks for debating this with me properly and not trying to rubbishing everything I have said.

I do see your arguments and will take that in to consideration when basing my opinion.

Cheers!

Hmmm, the problem is I read your long winded posts and your recent childish display in your dealings with honest andy and all I can hear is noise!

There are loads of threads within this forum, start tailoring your posts to the specific thread and argue along specific points rather than sitting in here shouting.

If you have a point then post it and lets debate the specifics of that point!
Right back on subject, apologies if my post are longwinded, you’re the only person to tell me so, not devils advocate, a difference of opinion, which I believe is acceptable on this site.
However I shall try and keep my posts short and sweet, like everyone else.

So back to road safety.
I think the point you are missing **Mike** is that this thread is about PCSOs and roadside laser as they relate to prosecutions. You're taking it off at a tangent to discuss the efficacy (or otherwise) of camera enforcement. Please be assured that we are all willing to debate, but it'd probably be better done in a section of the forums related to that subject matter.

Perhaps a mod could split the thread? (there are many similar threads, but I don't recall seeing it debated for a while so it might be worth doing, rather than hiding the arguments away in a thread most users now have firmly in their 'ignore' list :) )

From the Ignore list over 5000 views, and 200 posts !!!

Perhaps time to get off "THE SOFA" !!!!!!!! Surely

I will sit on the sofa and make disparaging remarks about your posts....!

As requested, the "Stats and cameras" debate that developed in here has been segregated and continues in another forum - http://www.safespeed.org.uk/forum/viewt ... 292#108292
