This is very interesting:

Quote:
Statistical Reform Bill

Creates an independent board to ensure the quality and comprehensiveness of official statistics across the UK.

Well, well well. So they know they have been caught out talking bollocks then.

This is worrying:

Quote:
Road Transport Bill ('draft bill')

Increases the powers to create toll roads and gives councils more freedom to introduce their own schemes. Gives councils more powers to improve local bus services.

It's really the anti-car and road pricing machine steam-rollering on in spite of the evidence.

I'm not going to comment further on crime or security except to say this lot scare the hell out of me.

The climate change thing is big of course. Perhaps statistical reform will slow it down a bit?

Safe Speed issued the following PR at 14:00 this afternoon:

PR405: Safe Speed welcomes Statistical Reform Bill

news: for immediate release

Announced in today's Queen's Speech is a 'Statistical Reform Bill'. Safe Speed
welcomes the announcement because it has become perfectly clear that official
road safety statistics are dangerously wrong in some areas.

Paul Smith, founder of the Safe Speed road safety campaign
(www.safespeed.org.uk) said: "Road safety depends on the best possible
statistical information so that precious resources can be allocated for optimal
effect. We welcome the new 'Statistical Reform Bill' in the hope that better
information will lead to better policies that will in turn save lives on our
roads."

"For example, the statistics supporting the use of speed cameras are
dangerously flawed."

"For example, the statistics that purport to show that road safety improvements
are 'on target' are not even credible."

<ends>

Somehow I doubt that in NewSpeak 'statistical reform' means making the statistics more representative of the facts. Rather more likely is creating Winston Smith's job of 'rectification' at MiniTrue.
