Been summonsed for doing 50mph on NSL single carriageway (40mph limit for HGV's). Caught by static gatso. Have posted my case on Pepipoo see here.....http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showtopic=15878
A member from there has suggested I contact this forum and ask if anyone knows wether static gatso's being used for spotting both cars & HGV's actually have type approval?
Any help or links would be gratefully appreciated. :? :? :?

Bit on the ABD site - local issues -Warwickshire - strong hint on SCP site that they do target HGV - and on ABD,warning about it. - also heard a story that one of the ones on the A5 (the one thats caught fire twice now) is set that way --from a HGV driver with friends living near it .

I went through a big thing on this issues (type approval of cameras with vehicle type discriminators).

At first a senior Home Office official told me verbally that no cameras were approved for use with (or included) a vehicle type discriminator.

So I put in a FoI thinking I had hit gold. When the FoI cam back it gave brief details of an (alleged) type approval for Gatso cameras to be operated with a vehicle type discriminator.

I haven't got to the bottom of it. I suspect that the written information was true and the verbal information was false/inaccurate, but I have not proved it; I have not seen documentation.

I would CERTAINLY demand full documentation and disclosure on the matter if I was fighting a case that used such equipment.

Paul - from the ABD Warks site--

"A5 Speed Camera Targetting HGVs at 40
The speed camera on the A5 Eastbound just prior to the A444 Junction is able to distinguish between cars and HGVs, and has been setup to catch HGVs exceeding the 40mph single carriageway limit.
The speed camera is well hidden by a large tree and a large speed camera sign — it's the only example we have of a camera being hidden by it's own warning sign!"

Paul,
Thanks for swift reply. Doesn't look promising I admit but out of sheer bloody mindness I'm going to check this out!
How do I go about seeking the documentation and discosure? I'm completely new to all this so any advice will be gratefully appreciated.
The camera in question is on the A40 (heading West out of Oxford) at Cassington Railway Bridge, site no.602 and is operated by Thames Valley Police.
Look forward to your reply.
Cheers,

Pepipoo can help more than we can.

First you have to decide if you're going to fight the case.
Then, if you are, you have to dig into it to find a defence.
Then you have to prepare your defence.
Then you have to present it in court.

Remember Nick Freeman won 50 speeding cases in a row. This is a clue that most cases are winnable if you do enough preparation. However you have to decide if it's worth your time and trouble.

The difference between winning and losing frequently stems from the quality of the preparation.

Jamie.

If you're in and out of Oxford regularly, watch out for the Gatsos on the A420 too. Between Abingdon and Oxford they will ping you at 40mph.

Best of luck with the case.

Have emailed The Home Office three times now but still haven't received a reply? Apparently they can take up to 20 days to reply. Will post any info. as soon as I get it.

I've pleaded not guilty and got another date for 17th Jan. Can't believe they wouldn't accept my request for an adjournment till after the O'Halloran & Francis case gets it's judgement in February? They must be desperate to get their grubby hands on my sixty quid and then make me appeal if the case goes in our favour?

I'm determined to have my day in court anyway!
