Depends on the type of camera.

What colour was the flash?

Bit more important - road markings and position of camera.

Lot of possibilities - have a look at www.speedcam.co.uk - shows you the types of camera.

Truvello's can be set up to work both ways ( three close lines to work facing you, Gatso type lines working away from you), Gatso's as far as i'm aware are only type approved for rear pictures.--That's the main types of camera used.
now the Monitrons - anyone know -i've only seen them used in place of Gatsos.

Gatso: Maybe. (They might be type approved for front facing mode now, but I've not seen it happen)
RedSpeed (was Monitron): I don't know! They have road sensors so if they're only installed one side they can only get you one side.
Peek: Yes.
Truvelo: Yes if magenta filter used.

I really should get photos of all these and make a web site with slightly better information than most of the ones out there art the moment...

Ziltro - was thinking that perhaps this site might benefit from a page dedicated to cameras, type aproval, identification etc etc.
Then when some one like a newby comes along we could direct him/her (being PC NOW) to that page. Unless Paul thinks that this sort of info goes against SS principles.
It's just that regularly we see new posters come on asking for info that experienced users know. Lets share it and help to stop ignorance of the scam principles.

It really depends on the type of camera how it functions physically and how it is allowed to function legally.
Gatsos flash twice. Truvelos flash once.
Some SCPs use dummy flasher units in their fixed Gatso housings, to fool people into thinking that they are working. These MAY only flash once. They aren't anywhere near accurate, but all they do is flash.

It might be good as a forum post. The main site is all about road safety so it's not really fitting, it's more a PePiPoo (/ABD?) thing.
I might even make a new post and do a 'memory dump' on how I believe the things work.
Then we need (good quality) photos. But they can wait. :)
