Browsing through a forum on energy saving, I noticed a post which I thought worthy of some discussion - how green is your pet?

How much energy is consumed manufacturing and transporting PET FOOD?
It's certainly big business - they can afford TV advertising, and our local supermarket has an aisle full of christmas presents for pets!

Now I dont have a pet, but I dont begrudge anyone who wants companionship having them, but our neighbourhood is overun with cats, who mess in MY garden, attack wildlife, and fight in the street.
Dog owners allow their pets to foul pavements and play areas, and while the risk of disease is overstated, it IS unpleasant when you get it on your shoe just before you get home!

So, come on Ken, nevermind gas guzzling 4x4's and congestion charging, how about charging for pets, and encouraging RESPONSIBLE ownership?

On the same subject, a BABY SEAL PUP has been found on the side of the road, miles from the nearest sea or water in north Lancashire according to our local paper. If THAT is their behaviour towards animals, what sort of motorist do you think would do something like that?

It's certainly big business - they can afford TV advertising, and our local SHOPPING CENTRE has a SHOP full of christmas presents for KIDS!

Now I dont have a KID, but I dont begrudge anyone who wants companionship having them, but our neighbourhood is overun with KIDS, who [THROW FOOD WRAPPER] mess in MY garden, attack wildlife (lots of tree damage), and fight in the street.

KID owners allow their KIDS to [THROW CHEWING GUM] on pavements and play areas, and while the risk of disease is overstated, it IS unpleasant when you get it on your shoe just before you get home!

What has someone attitude to animals got to do with their driving habits?

Seriously though - is the answer to everything that people don't like to Tax it?

That's what the government want us to believe. Tax is good for us.

Have you looked at the ingredients of canned pet food anyway? "Minimum 4% real meat". Yum. "Meat and and animal derivatives. Derivatives of a vegetable origin" Yum yum. I'm sure they put stuff in to make the pets addicted too. Or is that a conspiracy theory?

Well i'm not the one eating it. Perhaps more taxes and might have to start. I've watched my cat eat live mice whole so i can't see that they are all that picky. After all people eat sausages and Pork Pies and you REALLY don't want to know what goes in those....



I have suspected for some time my dog might be stealing from me to fund his habit. The cat just like the catnip toy once a week - goes nuts with it for half an hour then sleeps.....

My local butcher sells bags of 'pet-grade offal' that we feed our dog and mog on and they are both rude with health. It's pretty ghastly stuff to deal with, but Toby and Greebo down it so quickly that you don't have time to identify the lumps of flesh in it.
You also know that, be it earhole or arsehole, it is local earhole or arsehole from a slaughterhouse about nine miles from me.
Our two little darlings won't touch the pre-packed 'Rover's/Tiddles's Meaty Chunks' now and they are a bloody sight fitter for it.

The methane that they produce, however...

definately a myth. i have 2 kittens from the same litter. their tastes change practically on a weekly basis. one week they cant get enough of one brand, next week they wont touch it. thats cats for you

My late JRT being a farm dog was very keen on recycling. Why waste a perfectly good afterbirth? After letting one "mature" for a day or two on the muck heap he would drag it down and eat it. Believe me a cow afterbirth is a big meal for a Jack Russell. He lived 'till this june when he died at the ripe of age or 16. The local cats are sleeping a bit easier these days...

No, not quite. The prevailing attititude - as embodied by our wonderful elected dictatorship (sorry - Government) is if you don't like it ban it, and if you can't ban it, tax it.
