Stephen Fry banned from driving

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/norfolk/6179523.stm

BBC News, Thursday, 14 December 2006

Actor Stephen Fry has been disqualified from driving for six months after he was caught speeding in Norfolk.

Fry was captured by a speed camera as he travelled at 74mph in a 60mph zone, on the Swaffham Road at Weeting.

He lost his driving licence under the totting up procedure, as he already had nine penalty points.

Fry, who admitted speeding, was banned from driving for six months, fined £150 and ordered to pay £35 costs by Kings Lynn magistrates.

He did not attend the hearing as he is currently filming in Hungary. Fry's latest role sees him play a prosecution lawyer in the trial of Eichmann, the Nazi war criminal.

I thought if you didn't go to court (IOW if you were allowed to plead by post) they could not revoke your licence. Am I wrong?

Good question! That's what I though too. [I also think there's a difference between disqualification and revocation.]

So they're banning Fry-ups from driving now?
