Cycling Time Trials agreed to continue its joint promotion of British Time Trial Championships with British Cycling despite the fac this would mena hard shell helmets being compulsory for all competitors.

BC had raised concerns taht as the elite events carry UCI ranking points - the events should be run under UCI guidelines - including use of helmets.

I will skip over most of the piece which goes into the nitty gritty of the championship rules and regulations.

But Heaton says in the last paragraph of this piece on the topic of signing the location of these trials for the benefit of other road users

Quote:

There is little doubt that the use of safety signs contributes greatly to the safety of riders in our events - by increasing the awareness of other road users. Since signing the location of our Trials - reported accidents with other road users had fallen from 80 to 58 with fatalities falling from 6 to one in 2006.

The piece also suggests that helmet wearing in these events will help promote helmet wearing amongst commuters.
