So, with the expection of Sixy, where are all the girls on these forums (fora?). Are they not interested in road safety and driving? Have we frightened them off? Are they too busy buying shoes :bunker: ? Does it matter that half the population arn't represented?

This has been raised before and, if I remember correctly, we concluded that men predominate on virtually all internet forums (Latin is not my best subject).

Men seem more obsessional about things and inclined to express their opinion. Take the C+ dicussions - how many "loonies" are women?

There is also the "techno" issue regarding computers.

Mrs Miggins is another frequent female contributor.

And Teabelly (my favourite cynic!).

I think there are a series of 'male filters' as follows:

- Car enthusiasm tends to favour males
- Engineering and technical subjects tend to favour males
- The internet / computer thing still tends to favour males
- driving tends to favour males (more licenced drivers, higher mileages)

I also tend to feel that the ladies are more inclined to accept officialdom, which is perhaps the most interesting and controversial component factor.

My wife virtually "lives" on the "I-Village" fora. I had a look once - nothing of interest for me there! They do have a "motoring" board but other than the odd child seat question, they seem to mainly restrict themselves to talking about car colours and whether or not they match their handbags! Her sister spends a lot of time on various animal-type fora. I think this is just a male interest - driving, cars, etc.

Plus have you seen what happens when a random woman does pop up on any given car forum.

On scoobynet the resulting thread is best described by the shark image macro that will inevitably be posted to it. I dread to think what it would be like on a forum for cars more accessible to younger drivers.

I suspect there may be more than you might think, they just keep their personal details to themselves.
