any chance of importing some German politicians to revise our road safety strategy?

Quote:
"I am committed to a reduction in emissions but a general speed limit on open stretches of road does not make sense," minister Wolfgang Tiefensee said in a statement.

** disclaimer ** for any lurkers who like to quote these things completely out of context (you know who you are), this is not an endorsement of removing speed limits in this country but rather for thinking differently.

They say that if motorists took their foot off the throttle a little, this would cut greenhouse gas emissions and help Germany brush up its green credentials.

What a load of crap, I have just come back from Germany, It is a lot greener than here. Lidl has a deposit system on plastic bottles, so you take them back. My mother has several bins in her kitchen to sort all the recyclable waste. My brother in law has a German turbo diesel car with six gears. And at about 90mph thing is at a about 2000 rpm.

Also the point that the merc S class is more enviromentally friendly than the toyota hybrid car.As i belive they are made out of and made to be recycleable.

(From what I saw the driving on the autobhan was alot better than the driving on our motorways. Drove from germany to calais, I did not find it very stress full. I was in dover 5min and was pissed off)

Germany was the birthplace of "Green politics"... but you can at least co-habit with their version to a greater extent.

I think more pressure to keep the perk.. and they do pay a surcharge on insurance for the "perk" and novices are resticted to 80 mph for probationary .. and like mike1998 .. they have a plate to let other road users know why they are keeping things "more sedately"

Lets cut to the facts shall we

When it comes to C02 missions per capita Germany are number 20 in the world whereas the Uk is number 25.

co2 emissions only count if you buy into the current scare. How do they fare with the rest of the green agenda?

It depends how importand you thing recycling plastic bottles is.

Is that not the same as the C02 agenda, over hyped environmental benefits.

The Germans banned the use of rubber tyres as land fill, so they exported them instead to other countrys that did not have a ban.....very green

It was said in the news not to long ago, we send our recycling to china.
What is the difference in CO2 production between us in 20th and them as 25th? :scratchchin:

The bottle in lidl was merely an example of a proactive recycling stance. A lot better than fining people for not recycling don’t you think?

I agree but it anoys me when we are slated for not being "green" enough.

WTF does GREEN actualy mean. We are going down the slippery slope of issuing fines to people who are GREEN when they dispose of household. The hateful word "antisocial" is also being used........ :x

The whole recycle debate needs to be put under the spot light. I am 100% sure that a lot of recycling projects do more harm than good.

:yesyes: :yesyes:

I hate the way cars are instantly to blame. It particularly annoys me when Hybrid, electric, or hydrogen cars. Are considered to be more environmentally friendly only because they only consider CO2 released from the car.
