following on from the thread and supplied pictures, the scenario we have is a fixed camera on a 50mph dual, assuming now that the 50mph repeater signs are all in order and the speed camera advisory signs are in order as per DFT

70

Being serious: you might be surprised how many drivers would when considering the road described within that thread used to be a 70, can still safely support 70 and that some drivers may not know a camera is actually installed there.

already the poll is being disected, lets just concentrate on what is there now, not the reasons why it is there or what should be there

OK.
If it’s an area/road I don’t know well or I’m not confident there is lack of enforcement, then the answer will be the limit or below (how much below: who knows).
If it’s an area/road I know well and the road can safely support higher with full consideration to others and I am confident there will be no camera (many roads fit this description), then the answer could be above, at or below the limit.

I’m guessing you’re after the former.

no im not bothered with the results, i am trying to get my head around why someone would approach this camera which is out in the open clearly marked signposted at whatever speed he was doing then brake so sharply

I can't answer this poll with all due respect It's daft.

If I know the camera is there, I'll brake beforehand, if i don't know I'll drive at 70.

If and this happens quite often to me on the a45 ryton, (which I know full well is enfoced) I am driving along at a comfortable and safe speed for the conditions sometimes I don't realise that my speed has drifted above the limit, will see the camear, check my speed and brake suddenly. Because I forget that the camera is there.

Because the road looks like a 70, driver is one of the mass indoctrinated that the only important thing is his speed so isn't paying attention. Notices the camera, thinks "they don't put cameras in 70 limits", panics hits the brake, now it's all gone horribly wrong and is outside his capabilities.

People tend to look at the road not for cameras. Is it that difficult to understand?

I've put 50 - 55

Even though it looks like prime DC NSL, I'll still drive through the zone at 10% +2.

I'll be wailing and gnashing my teeth as I do so, as is often the case these days with councils who implement broadscale reductions in speed limits with no factual or historic evidence that neither accidents nor speeding occur on said road. :x

you forgot
Intend to drive though at 50 mph.
Check Speedo for legal compliance
Look up to find person in front has seem camera at last second, so is emergency breaking to about 25-30 mph(they are unsure of limit).
Break sharply, luckily you do not crash.
Consider buying new underwear.
