We have been rather infested with trolls recently and it has unfortunately been necessary to create a new system of user verification.

New users may have their accounts set to 'pending verification' status.

If your account has been set to 'pending verification status all you need to do is send us an email with some solid verification details enabling confirmation of identity.

Suitable items of identity confirmation include:

Full name and one or more of the following:

- landline telephone number
- frequently a long term email address would be suitable
- full postal address

In the case of a full postal address, your account would not be verified until receipt of a postcard was confirmed.

We reserve the right to make decisions on users in our judgement and in the interests of the community. We promise to hold your personal detail confidential and to use them for no other purpose save identity confirmation.

Can't see many people being prepared to disclose their full name along with either a landline or their postal addy Paul.

As far as "long term" e-mail addys go, can I assume that you mean non web based ones?
If so, I can create them in 5 seconds flat with my eyes closed (which means that if I can do it, so can others).

I run a similar entry test on some astronomy groups I own. It works very well - and surprisingly few have a problem quoting their telephone number.
