It's to allow equal access, as required by law. This way, wheelchair users can experience the same potholes as other road users.

Talking about pot-holes, this is probably not the right forum for this, but a name and shame website should be started up for this problem as it seems that most councils seem to think we don't mind banging and crashing around( and damaging our cars in the process) on these excuses for roads. Driving around Amersham in bucks today and the roads are in a disgusting state with pot-holes everywhere. Oddly enough all councils have people who are meant to inspect our roads regularly and have problems sorted. they must either employ blind people for this job or very incompetent ones. The standard of repairs leaves a lot to be desired as well and don't last very long.

You want to see the London bound carriageway of the M3 where it intersects with the M25 then.

The mile long (literally) potholes are both wide & deep enough to cause a car to be "dragged" if you encounter them, anybody on a 2 wheeled vehicle is hospital fodder for sure.

The good thing about their reporting set up is that you can give a precise location which can be displayed on the map. Makes it pretty difficult for the council to claim they couldn't find it.

In my council's defence, I have been using their online website to report several problems I have had since moving into the area about 3 years ago.
They pretty much sorted everything out for me, and quickly too.
I had an issue with a company's premises intruders alarm going off at all times day and night, and they proceeded against them on my behalf, and got it sorted!

They also sorted a few potholes I encountered on my journeys in the area, and they sorted them within 48 hours of me sending the information using their online form. Infact most of them were sorted overnight within 24 hours.

The council is Wokingham.

Unfortunately I think if the citizens don't speak or notify their councils, things do get sorted eventually, but admittedly would take much longer.
I have spoken to a couple of concil members and they have been very prompt at following up issues and they do seem to do their job properly.

So well done to Wokingham council!

P.S.
On the other hand, I think Thames Valley Police are scum since they tried to unlawfully prosecute me for speeding (and I won the case!) so i hope someone's reading this and taking notes!

A few years ago I reported a sunken trench outside our office using an online form. When heavy lorries come down the hill they hit the bump and it jolts the desks etc. quite noticeably (this is usually landfill trucks doing 40+ in the 30). A few days later a man in a Highways car stopped outside, looked it and and sprayed some white lines along it. Five years later the lines are faded and nothing has been done!
