Mostly I get 10 cycles in 10 seconds. I got 11 once.

Last year I managed 17 cycles in 15 seconds in a similar experiment.

Age: 48

.. unless I get pipped.

I am vintage 1957 - 47 years young.

With my normal driving glasses on I got through only 8 full cycles from normal distance to big clock and back again in 10 secs.

I repeated the expt with my bifocals - not ordinarily used for driving unless I forget - and did 10 1/2 cycles in 10 sec.

I do not propose to change my spectacle habit to accommodate speedo quicker - although I might for other reasons.

Good test, Paul.

Edit: Drat - beaten within the minute

With an alarm clock that has a white face and black hands: 10 cycles. 52 years old.

However, I wasn't convinced of the accuracy. So I tried the same experiment behind the wheel (parked up, of course) using the car's clock, which is the same size as and right next to the speedo. I only managed 8 cycles.

And I tried again in the car and managed 12 cycles in 10 seconds, mostly because the speedo dial was bigger than the clock I used, and the speedo arm was more contrasting than the hands.

A bit late in replying, but here's my results.

I tested myself whilst sat in the car at the end of a journey, and to get better overall picture, I tried it at three different times of day. Interestingly, and perhaps predictably, my best result, 12 cycles, was after a trip on the motorway.

Anyway, taking the average of all tests, I get 11 cycles in 10 seconds. Age is 42.

Not sure if my results can be included as I had to use a watch much smaller than my speedo. For what it's worth I'm 35 and got mostly nines with a couple of tens, making my speedo checks take about 1 1/10 seconds. I'm trying to work out a way of re-doing it in the car (on the driveway of course).

Initially managed 8, but with practice improved to 11 after about 5 attempts. I'm 38.
