The link provided says that they are retractable and only for use at low speed and when stopped. It suggests that they are of considerable benefit to disabled bikers or those with weak legs. So not quite as mad as it looks then...

hmm...I'd be very wary of something 'retractable' that's intended to support the weight of a large bike - as some of the comments say, what happens when it decides to retract when you actually need it...
