This letter appeared in the Lancashire Evening Post on Saturday, from Linda Sanderson (scammers mouthpiece)

"Cameras don't cause rise in casualties"

"Mr Brown is mistaken in his letter of March 1 condemning speed cameras. Road safety cameras do not cause an increase in road casualty figures. The evidence detailed in the 3rd and 4th year National Safety Camera Programme evaluation reports shows that cameras have reduced casulaties and speeds at the locations they have been placed.
In addition, the number of static cameras in Lancashire has remained the same for three years - certainly not a "proliferation". [b]By exceeding the speed limit by just 5 mph in a 30mph zone, a driver involved in an accident is twice a likely to kill someone than if they has kept within the speed limit. [b]Approximately two-thirds of crashes in which people are killed or injured happen on roads with a speed limit of 30 mph or less. These facts and many others are available on our website www.safe2travel.co.uk"

What complete b*****. Strangely enough no mention of RTTM  Fixed scams might not have increased, but talivan use certainly has! I think 300 scams is quite enough already....
The bit in bold (my bold) is the best bit! Notice how the driver doing 35 is automatically blamed regardless of the circumstances.

Paul, you might want to set the record straight! The LEP are normally anti-scam!

Original letter

I wrote a letter to LEP:

[quote]Cameras DO cause rise in casualties

Linda Sanderson (Lancs SCP) is either gravely mistaken, or is being deliberately misleading, in her letter of 24th March.
The evidence she alludes to is actually a sham. There is a brief mention of the possibility of a statistical anomaly regarding the perceived effectiveness of speed cameras in appendix H of the 4th year report; this anomaly has already been proven to be very real and very substantial.

She has repeated the fallacy “cameras have reduced casualties and speeds at the locations they have been placed.â€

Hmmmm.
Are they going to be impressed by rouge (red) drivers ?
Or did you mean rogue (undisciplined etc) drivers ?

Good stuff, Smeggy, hope it is published. I'm not too busy tomorrow so I'll try and do a letter as well.

BTW tonight's lead story in the LEP was about a taxi driver who was forced to attend the Scammers "speed awareness" course for doing 38 in a 30 whilst being attacked by a drunken passenger. He was trying to get back to his office for assistance (the Police station in Leyland being closed at night  ).

He didnt deny his speed but felt he had genuine mitigation. The Scammers rejected his case. As for the drunk, you guessed it, he was sent home with a caution - don't you love the priorities in Bliar's Britain

The Police have on many occasions been grateful for information received from taxi drivers. Another major own goal by the Scammers

And the website.. and the stats show an increase and no decrease in KSI in this county.

284 casualties on the A14 ijn 2005 .. despite scams every couple of miles.

Rise from 49 KSI to 59 KSI in Cumbria and still rising

Lancs and Staffs each report a similar trend

I wonder how this spokeswoman is going to explain that away... They published these stats after all

Perhaps the same daft motor mouthing at high speed which got Steviebabes all submarinated in a hot flash of a rogue digital dodgytron.. which Cumbria claimed to be a "test" in the first story and admitted it was having a hot flash of a tantrum in the second version  Happened before at Ings
