Apparently according to the news today Department for Transport figures provided to the House of Commons Transport Select Committee led to massively erroneous conclusions about the relative cost effectiveness of speed cameras and vehicle activated signs.

In particular Department for Transport used a sample figure of £7,000 for speed camera cost that was the cost of the housing and didn't include the £35,000 cost of the camera itself.

How much does an installation cost and for what type of system and how many fixed and mobile cameras are out there. I have heard lots of estimates £20-40K and 6,000 but does anybody have a clear and/or official view.

This is something I've been working on for a couple of weeks. But I haven't seen any news from it since it was released on Tuesday.
