Right. Apparently a quadricycle is a:

3 or 4 wheel motorvehicles not exceeding 550kg unladen weight, but exceeding 50kmph and 50cc.

Assuming that's right, I reckon that a "Caterham 7" falls within those limits!! :-) :-)

there is also a 15KW maximum continuous power limit.

Hype Hype and More Hype!

Nothing like a good rational debate ! (nothing at all like one in fact)!

Yup, it did pretty much what I imagined it would do. I'm just wondering when the long knives are going to be out for kit cars, classic cars, bikes, pushbikes, traditional Black cabs...

er, is this really that shocking? they are urban runnabouts and you only have to look at one to see it offers no serious crash protection, but so long as drivers drive with consideration to the vunrabilities of the vehicle i don't see how it differs from bikes, old people go-pods etc.

what does shock me is that they're allowed on the motorway- any that does so is surely mentally certifiable- 45mph max probably means sub 40 on a hill- if a lorry pulls out to overtake at the last moment then a tailgating lorry- perhaps already in a elephant race- would have moments to react before it becomes a grill ornament.

if that. Jonathan Ross expressed surprise that they'd done a 35mph crash test as he couldn't get his to go over 30mph downhill with a tailwind... (yes, I know how they do it).

With a range of only 40 miles on a full charge you are not going to get very far. From the centre of London you would just about get to the M25 and back without actualy getting on the slip road.

What happens if your battery goes flat when you are out on the motorway....nowhere to plug your charger into.....

Still, the upside is if it gets stolen you would not have to look very far. :D

It belongs in a circus as a clowns car, not on the roads.

I've got no problem with them being on the roads - same as I don' have a problem with bikes. As long as people are aware of their limitations, they have a lot of good points too. FREE CHOICE - and responsibility for one's own actions - that's what I'd like to see more of!

So they add anti lock brakes, abs, air bags, roll bars etc., etc., etc. Then the car needs more power to cope with the extra weight. So what does that do to the economy which was the point of the vehilce in the first place. :?

Well if you think that's bad, I've just been given a video of a crash test between (wait for it)...

...a car and a "pedicab" - yes, one of those cycle rickshaws.

Anyone care to guess which came off worse????

So, just in case anyone is in any doubt,

DON'T BUY A RICKSHAW IF CRASHWORTHINESS IS YOUR TOP PRIORITY! GET A CAR, APPARENTLY THEY'RE SAFER!

Looking at smeggy's link ---interesting bit crops up --"Transport minister Stephen Ladyman yesterday denounced the G-Wiz, and said it was not in conformity with EU regulations ... he wants Brussels to kick it off our streets."

Funny , i thought he was UK transport minister with powers like that.

If Mr. Ladyman thinks it doesn't comply with EU Regulations, I wonder if there's more to this than meets the eye? It doesn't NEED to comply with EU Regulations for a normal passenger car - it needs to comply with those for a "quadricycle". The test it was subjected to (EURO NCAP) was over and above the "EU Regulation" test for a passenger car - let alone a quadricycle!

Now if Mr. Ladyman wants to go back to the EU and tell hem that he doesn't belive their standards for quadricycles are appropriate - well that's a different matter entirely!

...of course, I'm assuming that they HAVEN'T subjected it to any quadricycle tests on the quiet. Maybe it failed those as well??
