as this morning I noticed there were new black bag covered speed limit signs erected?

this is a duel carriageway with NO junctions, exits, entrances or even Pedestrian access as it is all fenced off, it's only approx 1 Mile long so WTF is going on??, another Illegal reduced speed limit?, if so it will take me longer to get to work (Brum), I shall NOT leave earlier I will simply be late and whoever (if it happens) reduced the limit WILL pick up the tab

any ideas??

yes... it's going to be a 50.

which incidentally means your journey will take all of 21seconds longer... bless. (not accounting for time lost either end for accel/deccel)

Until the next limit goes in, which "only makes your journey take a few seconds longer".
And the next one.
And the next one.
And the next one.

Sounds to me like it's a speed limit reduction for "environmental" reasons - which these days is often seen as very noble, but of course like with other speed limit cuts, it'll mean more drivers focusing on their speedos and probably speed cameras introduced in the near future.

The original Brighton Run in November is not, as I understand it, to commemorate the repeal of the Red Flag Act,but to celebrate the increase in the speed limit to 25 mph.

Can't help thinking the next RT Act will be to declare 20 mph over the whole country, and a camera every 100 yards (sorry metres) to enforce it, and NO exceptions, even motorways !!

I tell you, the muesli crunching, sandal-wearing Greenies are now in charge, even though they get virtually no votes at all.

cant be for environmental reasons as it will see me going all the way down it in second gear just to piss the green nutters off

Can't remember if I read it here somewhere, but was it Kent Constabulary wanted a blanket :50: on all NSL roads. Some government body actually had the sense to turn round and say no. But gave them a chance by saying that they had to apply for each road individually.

:50: on the A2, M2, M20, M26 and some other nice straight dual carriageways is bloody absurd.

Came down the A444 from the A42 today - 50 most of the way - is this to generate accidents from boredom to perpetuate the mobile van enforcement ??. Another decent bit of road ruined.

A228 West Malling upgraded from single to dual carriageway. Speed limit reduced from NSL to 50. Apparently they made the road more dangerous by dualing it. 2 Miles further on twisty NSL :-/

That was one I was thinking of but couldn't remember the number. Probably it's 50 because of all the pedestrian crossings that are littering it.

Well the roads around the Holes Bay North Roundabout are going to have a temporary 30mph limit. Until December. December 2008. Afterwards we will be lucky and thanking our wonderful council for raising the speed limit to 50. Hang on a minute, 50?! :x

50 most of the way, but 11 speed limit changes in 10 miles with the limit apparently changing from 50 to nsl at random and reducing to 40 through a couple of villages with very little housing anywhere near the road. Different speed limits painted on the road in places.

Intended to cause confusion and generate revenue no doubt. I wonder how long it will be before one of the many repeater signs is involved in an accident ?
