Horror crash teenager still 'very poorly'
By Paul Keaveny
A TEENAGE driver is still "very poorly" after a head-on smash with another car.

Police say a Vauxhall Astra, being driven by 19-year-old Raza Khan, of Gilnow Road, Deane, was involved in a collision with an Audi cabriolet on the A675 Belmont Road, between Belmont and Horrocks Fold, just after 10pm on Saturday night.

Sgt Keith Young, of East Lancashire road policing unit at Accrington, said: "The male driver of the Astra received life-threatening head injuries and was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital by air ambulance."

He has since been moved to Hope Hospital in Salford.

Three other passengers in the Astra, in their late teens, managed to release themselves from the wreckage.

The trio were treated at the Royal Bolton Hospital.

One of the boys is thought to have suffered a broken leg while the others suffered from facial injuries.

The driver of the Audi, 31-year-old Rajini Nayyar, of Wincanton Drive, Eagley, is being treated for a serious leg injuries, also at the Royal Bolton hospital.

Witnesses are asked to contact the road policing unit on 01254 353767.

4:24pm today

Know the road from student days. Nice rural oasis. But tricky in my opinion from memory.

However my sister tell me the headline in the actual paper said the car was on the wrong side of the road and that it swerved to avoid the collision, failed and hit tree and burst into flames. A student nurse pulled the kids out of the car apparently.

Driver in lucky escape after car overturns
By Rob Devey

A DRIVER had a lucky escape after his car swerved off a danger road on the outskirts of Bolton, smashed through a stone wall and ended up on its roof in a field.
The 42-year-old Breightmet man climbed out of the BMW unscathed after the smash, which police say happened after he swerved to avoid a Land Rover which had veered into his path on Belmont Road.
The Land Rover driver, aged 33, from Preston, who is believed to have been diabetic, had fallen ill at the wheel but continued for another half-mile before ploughing through a wooden fence and into another field.

Why oh why can they never learn to manage their condition? :banghead:

He too escaped unhurt but was taken to hospital because of his medical condition.
Sgt Pete Sculpher, of the East Lancashire road policing unit, said the BMW driver, whose car ended up in a field about 200-yards from Bolton Sailing Club, just past the Belmont Reservoir, had been "very lucky".
"The car demolished a two and a half foot stone wall and ended up on its roof so he was very lucky," said Sgt Sculpher.
"This is a particularly bad stretch of road and we would advise people to drive with care."

Prone to macro climate per my sisters. :yesyes:

The accidents happened at about 4.50pm on Monday, around two miles from the spot 19-year-old Raza Khan was left fighting for his life just two days earlier following a head on smash.
Mr Khan is now said to be "stable" in Hope Hospital, Salford, after the accident between Belmont and Horrocks Fold on Saturday which saw his Vauxhall Astra burst into flames.
