Mmmmmmh! I'll have to think very hard here. I had a MK5 2.0L Cortina, I'd say around 1984, and one day whilst driving north on the M5 (Yes, it WAS built then) proceeding at a nice steady 80 mph in the slow lane (it was possible then) When I was overtaken at speed by a: RELIANT ROBIN! ......... :yikes: My guess is between 85 / 90 mph!

I swear, spit, and lick my computer screen to vow that this is TRUE!..... :)

Had the same thing happen to me in the early 90's on the M62, I was in the middle lane doing about 70 and had one pass me in the outside lane with a big Merc sat about 5ft from his back bumper.

 Pity the Merc couldn't keep up eh?............. :D

I have re-read the original story, and I would be prepared to say the police could have been right!

Look at the picture and imagine FOUR people in the vehicle.

Your first problem, and a major issue with the article.

That is not a Reliant Robin!!!!!

It is of course a Reliant Regal. What's more Delboy never drove a Reliant Robin, it was (as pictured) a Regal.

I'm a bit of an expert on the subject having owned a Regal (a Supervan III).

There was at least one Robin which had been given a Nissan engine and was quite capable of 100mph+, though you would need a smooth road.

Lifting the front wheel off the ground, in my Regal it was possible but only with 3 2 foot by 3 foot paving slabs in the boot.
