It can ONLY be a matter of time before somebody turns around, and demands they hand over the camera... with menaces! :(

If it REALLY is a problem as big as they make out, then there SHOULD be a policeman pulling them over and dishing out the summons - nothing less would be expected.

The present situation makes it look as though the police just dont care - which I am sure they do, but resources etc.... being bled of man power, because cameras are doing their jobs....
:?
AND WHAT ABOUT THE OTHER 95% OF ROAD ACCIDENT CAUSES? :x :x :x

What a sad country this is becoming. The police will be only too happy to let these people do their job for them, because it doesn’t cost them anything. From reading the article you get the feeling it’s more about the boy racers than normal people going about their daily lives. I wonder what time of day the boy racers come out to play, and if they know where they are playing, why aren’t these people there catching them. By the sound of it they’ll also use their figures to justify boasting a reduction of speeds across the village, when it’s only happening at the point where they operate.

They are sadly all "at it". I posted on up in SP&L. My sisters sent it to me with various comments  The road has rather large speed humps. Julie went to take a look for herself. She was in between the humps at 15 mph per her dash when the village idiot caused her in-car doo-dah to erupt loudly. I gather she stopped and asked them why they had targetted her car. Reply? "We thought you were speeding!"

Julie politely asked them to show her their reading and said she tactfully tried to explain to them that the idea was to "form an impression of the speed and then confirm suspicion by pressing the trigger of the device - but not to zap anything which moves as her husband was following on his bicycle at a faster speed than she was travelling. (He's going to do a charity ride in a couple of weeks. His bike is always attached to his car sop that he can "get a spot of training in wherever he happens to be ")

They claimed all the cars were above 30 mph in this 20 mph zone. Given the hump situation - I can only conclude their problem lies with boy racers who might be attracted to "taking off over those humps". A problem, like this one, which cannot be resolved by "neighbourhood speed watch" but more :scratchchin: by an old fashioned :stop: :bib:

Anyone know what the libel laws have to say about an unproven written accusation (by a civilian) of breaking the law (speeding)???

I would think that Mr (do-gooder) Dovaston could find himself in the dock!!!

are these people "working" on the highway?

do they need public liability or new roads & streetworks training?

Presumably the letters would be unsolicited mail and, as such, would be illegal if you had subscribed to the Mailing Preference Service.

This quote got me, I don't quite understand the significance?

Quote:
Hardly over the limit, but then what the speed camera does not record is the fact that the male driver is wearing what look suspiciously like a pair of iPod earphones

Since when was it illegal to drive whilst listening to an iPod?

Seriouly though. The article states that the team 'only have a few seconds to write down details of make, mode, colour and registration'. I wonder how many mistakes have been made???

The faster you go, the less time they have, so I bet they're only catching the slow speeders :P

You can just imagine them can't you

wetting their pants at catching a 'speeder' then scribbling furiously on their clipboard taking great care not to knock over the flask before mertle and eric fall out over whether it was a burgandy focus or a maroon astra....and was that a 'Y' or a 'V'? Whilst missing the chavved up saxo haring passed at 90.

I'm sending that one to little britain!

The news article has, I've just noted, been removed from the Sloppy Star website.

Obviously they're not happy about the number of posters disagreeing with their civvy pro-scamera reporting...

Link still works for me. They did moderate out the comment I added, presumably due to the fact that I promoted road safety, rather than 'blind compliance'.

Powerless prats is what they are. No sort of prosecution can ever result from their 'hobby' of playing with speedguns. It gives them the sort of 'buzz' a child gets when dressed up as a spaceman in a toy spacesuit. It makes them feel needed, wanted and important.
Just laugh at them or, better still, stop and wind them up a little. Tell then that you believe there are drug dealers lurking near the school and why don't they go and get cameras to photograph them so that the Police can see who these dealers are. Think they'll dare to do that? Oh, yes, very likely!
What insurance cover is provided for this activity?

Why don't they go and bloody do it then? Government releases spin on speeding being bad and suddenly half the population believe its true, even when confronted with proof its not. Sheep, the lot of them
:x

Teaching the damn kids some road safety would cut accidents far far far more. I've had 3 near misses with school kids and i've never been anywhere near the speed limit on each and every time. It's always been them not damn well looking.

Here it is again "the children", "a school". (there should be a vomit smiley)

I live near a road which is 20 mph outside a school and I nearly always travel at about 30 - just like everybody else because there's no :censored: children there, that's why. :furious:

When there is I go slowly, like everyone else, but why should I do 20 mph on a barren road with no children, no parked cars and good visibility? The man is a moron! He'd let me pass if I was 3 times over the drink limit going in a straight line at 15 mph though.

I feel like smashing the stupid sign that flashes :20: night and day seven :censored: days a week or better still smash it over his stupid head.

Can you email me an angry avatar please Handy? I could use one like yours.

Paul - Can you give me a list of disparaging words I can post that won't get me suspended?

Sorry. I can't do that. You'll have to use your judgement. But I do have considerable confidence that your judgement will keep you out of trouble. :)
