I cycle into work every day and it's easily the most dangerous thing I do. The worst accident I have had in my life was on a push bike, (well off it actually). Riding to work I feel like a turkey in a turkey shoot - I smell like one too by the time I arrive.
A big incentive to getting people to commute by bicycle would be changing facilities and perhaps place to have a "wash down"

I don't cycle to work - it really is too far to be viable time wise for me. I also travel between hospitals within the Trust on occasion and outside our Trust also on occasions when the patient's best chances lie in Manchester's excellent expertise.
But .. when we did the last "epic" for charity (long ride across Austria last October for one of the health causes we actively support) - we found a simple "Wet One" served to freshen up any stale sweaties

It's bad enough having hecklers, (envious of my sexy legs I reckon), shouting abuse at me but I have to tolerate stupid motorists with no spatial awareness. In a line of stationary traffic there's always one who is tight against the curb so I have to go up on the pavement. (You law-breaker you!) Well, only if there are no pedestrians of course, which there never are because no-one walks anymore on my route. Phah!
We support "Give Cyclists Room!" and we do so at all times. If we cannot pass - we stay behind. We find most cyclists get nervous and stop to wave us on though ..

We ease off all the more as we know most of these roads and where to do the overtake properly

But we are locals and tourists are not perhaps as familiar as we are.
These do tend to be the tourists who hired a mountain bike for the day . I think.

Also, few drivers take any notice of that green box by the traffic lights for cyclists - I'm not sure if they are used elsewhere, outside the midlands. Oh, by the way, can someone tell me if these are meant for motorbikes too? It just shows a pic of a cycle so am I breaking another law by taking my Kawasaki in there?
End of rant

Not seen these here .. only at Toucan crossings. I thus think not legal for motorised bike including the "electric bicycle"
