I'm getting a bit fed up with allegations that this site is full of people who are always being punished for motoring offences, so this poll (together with the "How Many Points Do You Currently Have?" one) will hopefully put them to bed.

I got an SP50 (FPN) for 93mph in 2002 on the A1(M), in Durham of all places. I don't doubt that I deserved it, not necessarily for the speed per se, but because I hadn't been driving long, and my observation (of the speed trap) clearly wasn't up to scratch.

It was a nervous 16 months until the 2 years after I'd passed were up....

Before the days of points, I had my licence endorsed for doing 47 in a 30 in January 1981. And that's it.

Plus I've only had two valid parking tickets in my life, and one of those was simply for failing to display a valid permit which was elsewhere in the car.

In 22 years of driving I have had a total of 6 points. One lot of 3 in the late 80's, 3 more in 2000. Both we given by a police man at the side of the road with a radar or laser gun.

he was ok. it was me who called the ambulance. his bike hit my car smack in the middle hard enough to push the drivers seat over a few inches. the bike didnt actually fall over

Managed to earn 10 in one year early on in my driving career.

3 for 50 in a 30, wasn't paying attention to what was behind me (a panda car). To be honest I don't know how fast I was going because my speedo was broken but I think the copper was being nice to me.

4 for driving without due care and attention, classic "looked but did not see" accident.

3 for 50 in a 40, speed trap hiding over the brow of a hill on a DC at 00.01, wrong place at the wrong time, average speed on that road during rush hour was over 60.

Spent the next two years rigidly staying within the speed limit, I'm sure it's no coincidence that this was my worst period for accidents.

How many did you have in that period, prior to that period and after?

Before the first points 1 accident in 2 years when a wheel came off my Reliant Regal and collided with a car coming the other way.

Then there was the one where I gained the 3 points and wrote off my car.

In the 2 years between getting to 10 points and the first 3 expiring I wrote off one car and had 3 or 4 minor bumps. Can't remember all the details, I know one went against me and the first I knew was when my insurance premium went up and the writeoff went 75% in my favour.

After that I had a couple of completely clean years, one minor bump, a couple more clean years then a minor supermarket carpark shunt when someone thought they could nip behind me and take the spot I was reversing into.
