I'm getting a bit fed up with allegations that this site is full of people who are always being punished for motoring offences, so this poll (together with the "How Many Points Have You Ever Had?" one) will hopefully put them to bed.

None for me since my only 3 dropped off in 2005. TBH I don't really live in constant fear of the postman (although every now and then I prepare myself for a possible brown envelope).

I got off to a bad start, got 3 for speeding not long after passing my test. Then I got hit up the backside on the motorway and got prosecuted for due care, in my silly youth I stuck my head in the sand and ignored all the paperwork, didnt turn up in court (even though in retrospect I would have won) and ended up with another 6 and having to resit my test under the new drivers rules.

Then I got my licence back, did 3 years with 9, then another 5 years with a clean licence.

Then about a month ago I took a friend to Wales and brumstrom ruined it :(

In 22 years of driving I have had a total of 6 points. One lot of 3 in the late 80's, 3 more in 2000. Both we given by a police man at the side of the road with a radar or laser gun.

Driving for 19 years, no points, ever. Did, I admit, get stopped at the side of the road in Germany and given an on-the spot fine, and I was pulled in the UK by a policeman with a hairdryer.

Was told to expect to go to court as he showed me that I was doing 55 in a 30. I asked him how that was possible when I was in heavy traffic (pointed to the queue he had pulled me out of that was clearly not manageing 30, let alone 55 - I think I was doing about 25-30 at the time). Was told if I wanted to argue then to expect a court date.

Two weeks later had a letter to say that due to a "procedural error" my case was being dropped, but remined me to "stay within the law in future". The case later became known locally as "The 55 Farce" - apparantly the same queue of traffic had resulted in a large number of people being pulled for exactly 55 and everyone had questioned it.

Can't help but think how I could have defended myself if there had only been one or two of us, things may have been very different.

I’m confused on how I should answer this….

3 years 11months ago I acquired 3 points on my licence. Very recently the DSA asked if I had any points and I answered, no. They virtually called me a liar because the offence was still written on my licence.

What’s this 4 years on your licence mean?

Points last 3 years. The 'extra year' that they remain on your licence is an administrative convenience. They want them there for the extra year so that slower pending convictions still have access to the number of points on the licence at the time of offence.

So, for example, if you were due in court tomorrow for an offence that took place 12 months ago (when your existing points were less than 3 years old), the court could see that you had 'X' points at the date of offence.

Thanks, that now makes sense.

So how come the DSA label me as a naughty little boy when I only have a history of points but none in reality. (Or maybe I can answer that myself :D )

My license went up to 6 points in my youth (late 80's) after I had passed my test. Both were by policemen at the side of the road but in those days they used the same lines that they use to monitor traffic usage. That's to say they used 2 lines across the road at a pre-determined distance.

I remember visiting a police open day when I was a nipper where they had them on a table and asked people to get the highest speed by hitting them with two hammers. I brought the hammers down and achieved a speed of about 160mph

I've had no points since they came off nearly 20 years ago. Not bad considering I ride a high performance bike too

So 21 out of 24 who have voted currently have no points for anything? (let alone speeding). You can't help but be impressed!

My friends tell me that my Blackbird is capable of over 70mph, but I too, have a nice, squeaky-clean licence!

And since I've been biking, I've never even been pulled over! :x

Oh yes, you need TrafPol for that - silly me...

Pulled over twice. Once on a tatty CD200, didn't know at the time that trafpol can't just inspect the vehicle at the side of the road (Section 13?) and once because I had a photocopy of tax disc cos it kept getting knicked.

Oh, just remembered, once more because they were doing a safety promo for bikes in Kent and I always wear black.

Clean licence for around 15 years.

Never even been NIPped by a speed camera.

Clearly I have "nothing to be afraid of", so why am I here?

Had one of the first FPNs in about 1989 - £24

Then another in 1999

Never by a scamera

Over the years I have been warned several times in America (The roads are just too straight) but no tickets.

Passed car test in 76 and bike in 78, clear ever since, touch wood! I'm a devotee of the 11th commandment, obviously.
