What speed were you doing in L2?
the speed limit as posted on gantries on the autobahn

The questions were referring to unrestricted sections, granted I didn’t repeat that when I repeated the questions but it doesn’t get you off the hook; it’s fairly obvious that’s what I meant. Please answer in that respect (it doesn’t matter that the unrestricted sections are fewer, the point is still valid).

peegee wrote:
If you can make proper use of lanes over there then why not over here too?
I do make proper use here

No you don’t. You stated that you deliberately stay in lanes unnecessarily to hack of other drivers; does that really sound to you like 'proper use' of lanes?

peegee wrote:
- you've always blamed me without any justification - and never once said that reckless speeds and approach of drivers ahead is irresponsible or dangerous.

I have given justification, several times; I’ve even quoted from the IAM and RAC for you just a few pages ago – congestion! Do keep up.
Who said passing drivers are being reckless, irresponsible or dangerous? Could you qualify that?

peegee wrote:
You've already said that you'd do high speed smeggy and so has robin - so its no slight on you if I'm mentioning it in context...

I was referring to the following; were you?
peegee previously wrote:
Smeggit and Xe would be going at 120 and bull bars so they can scrape us slo's of their bumpers when they reach their more important destination.

Yes? No?
I put it to you that you’re making more false claims and resorted to ad hominem.

peegee wrote:
Your the one advocating "faster therefore more important to get out of the road of them" not me...

Where did I advocate that? Please quote the text, unless you you making more false claims - again.

peegee wrote:
most people play it safe between 80 and 90 - still illegal but wont attract a ban - up here if your 90 to 100 then you can expect a "go to court" badge from the police person - and a little wait before the local sheriff laughs with mirth at your stupidity... To summerise that everyones doing it doing it :) frankly makes your point even less valid.

“sheriff”?
Who said “everyones doing it”? Please quote where from.
Even if they were, please explain why it supposedly makes my point less valid?

You have a habit of format your posts in such a way that you try appear to answer our questions yet without actually doing so, all you’ve really done is manipulate statements and make up more claims; are those not the traits of a disingenuous poster?
You’ve not actually answered any of the questions I’ve posed to you have you? I'm not expecting you to start now!

No! No! No!

Just keep left unless overtaking!

peegee, you are a liar! I have never said that I speed, in fact quite the opposite, and I defy you to prove otherwise.

It amazes me that you MLMs actually think it makes a difference if the criticism of your behavior is coming from someone you perceive as a 'lawbreaker' or not. It is wrong, plain and simple.

Keep left unless overtaking!

where have to said you dont speed - thats what I like to know - the "exact opposite" is what you've said?

i think your in denial like others in the forum and should seek a little solice in finding yourself out on a limb with most common sense, laws, economical and safe driving practices.

if jtb's contribution to road traffic safety is keep left unless overtaking - also known as daring to step out in front of drivers going way over the speed limit and are far more important than you or your safety - then we'll never improve the roads...

All this shows is the overall selfish attitude regarding how to use the road - ie keep left and out of my way - as you may slow me down arrghh!!!

I think you should read the rest of this thread, and the other parallel one which was closed for duplication, and you'll see the answer to your unfounded, unjustified and duplicitously untrue accusation. Don't expect me to trawl through for you, I know what I've said!

The weakness of your case is clear when it is shaken so by a 'non-speeder' disagreeing with it. It shows you up in the true light of your misguided righteousness.

I actually find your offensively deceitful comments to be akin to ad hominem due to their unfounded nature, and every post of mine going to show quite the opposite of what you accuse. You are showing yourself up to be a wholly unpleasant little man.

Right, red pen time:

The first letter of a new sentence is always capitalised.

First sentence; you clearly meant 'you' not 'to' and 'I'd' not 'I'. 'Don't' has an apostrophe.

The 'in' is not possessed by me, therefore you should have used 'you're' not 'your' in the second paragraph. 'Solace' has an 'a' not an 'i', and is incorrectly used in the context.

Can we really expect someone who cannot even grasp the basics of 10+ English to be capable of rational thought regarding road safety?

Reading through the syntax, grammar and phrasing of your post, not to mention the concepts loosely corralled in it's vacinity, I seriously have to enquire whether you were in some way intoxicated at the time of writing?

That didn't answer Robin's question; that's just an act of diversion.

Do you think it is right for you to say that given you make endless false claims, fail to substantiate your arguments, rely on fallacies and not answer questions posed of you?

My bold, highlighting a great example of misrepresentation (strawman argument).

peegee wrote:

I might remind you that your ‘best’ reason for lane hogging was to purposefully ‘hack off’ other drivers; is that not the height of selfishness?

I cant help if people cant hold their temper whilst driving - its unfortunate but often entertaining to see the person behind having steam coming out of their ears - as they've been slowed down and cant take situation in a calm and patient manner.

If I find that funny then its a product of these people loosing it - and if you've seen any of the recent fly on wall docs with people out driving - and their "attitude" then we'd be better tackling these problems first - rather than blaming me for daring to pull out to overtake legally and safely - whilst those behind are being reckless and illegal...

You've no argument to the most basic premise of this problem - ie its not the mlm its peoples perception that they have an mlm in front of them or is it they are being reckless, impatient and illegal...

Carry on with the double standard by all means - but it weakens any argument for increasing speed limits if people cant handle their emotions with the current laws.

You've already admitted that you'll pull out even if you know there's a car approaching.

You are a danger to yourself and others.

*Sigh*

Peegee, in amongst all your lies, invective and flawed reasoning, you're still trying to argue against a standpoint that noone is taking.

What will it take to get your clearly defective mental process to accept the following:

    - Noone here has a problem with safe, legal, well planned and executed overtaking.

    - Those who are not currently overtaking should be in the leftmost lane available.

Unless you are actually going to debate the topic at hand, instead of arguing with thin air, whilst being offensive to other posters, then you will have conclusively proven that you are nothing more than an illiterate troll.

Another post, another convenient topic drift!

peegee wrote:

MLMs are creating frustration, needlessly so – hence the frustration and the inevitable tempers should they occur. MLMs of the worst kind, your kind, who are knowingly antagonistic and obviously derive ‘pleasure’ and ‘entertainment’ from their needless actions are a deeper cause of the problem.

peegee wrote:

Is there not something in the highway code which states drivers should not act in a way that forces others to deviate from their course? Found it, Rule 112:
highwaycode.gov.uk wrote:
If you need to change lane, first use your mirrors and check your blind spots (the areas you are unable to see in the mirrors) to make sure you will not force another driver or rider to swerve or slow down.

peegee wrote:
…rather than blaming me for daring to pull out to overtake legally and safely

I note the lack of the word ‘considerately’, in fact I would dispute your use of the term ‘safely’ due to the tempers you admit to knowingly causing.

peegee wrote:
whilst those behind are being reckless...

Why do you say that?

peegee wrote:

I have already explained to you how my position in the matter is consistent and not a double standard, I can only surmise that you ignore this simply because it is you who has ‘no argument’. Would you not agree that your unsupported yet continued stance in this shows that you are not interested in debate?

having lost the will to re-read this thread, I'm quoting this from memory so may be slightly wrong ...

Peegee's problem so many pages ago was with "captain flash", who comes up behind him / her when s/he pulls out to make an overtake - is that correct?

I'm a slow driver, it's my choice, I am mocked for it by my colleagues (the usual statement is that I drive like a granny), but I still continue to choose to drive within the posted speed limit (apart from the very rare drift-overs that occur). I still make use of all available lanes on dual carriageways and motorways, and regularly overtake slower vehicles. I choose to drive in lane 1 mostly, certainly if the road is empty.

I can't recall the last time I was tailgated during an overtake ... I also can't recall being flashed during such a manouevre.

What am I doing that is different to you, that I don't get flashed yet you do? I make good progress in my driving, using all available lanes, and it's rare that I have to slow down just to adjust to the traffic in my lane. I certainly don't do "diving out of the way" if being approached by a faster car ... although I will move over when it is safe and appropriate to do so.

All I can think of is that my observation is better than yours, thus I start looking at the overtake manouevre much earlier, and plan, and find a gap that is suitable? I can't imagine that the motorways I use (little ones, you may have heard of them, the M6, M42, M40, M1, M25 for example) are populated with entirely different drivers from the roads you use?

Yes you can help it: keep left unless overtaking! It really is that simple!

I think the fundamental difference is that you are here honestly reporting your experiences, while the other chap is not.

On a slightly different slant but I think still related to some of the posts; do you prefer travelling at the same or near the same speed as other vehicles around you or to have a speed differential.

On motorways I prefer the latter as I feel I can manage the space around me much more effectively if I am both overtaking and being overtaken rather than following and being followed.

Is having a speed differential safer? Personally I would say yes, I certainly feel less stressed when I can drive this way.

If you don't have a speed differential then extended side-by-side driving seems inevitable. And that's the least safe position of all (normal positions).

I'm not calling anyone a liar here - just disagreeing with them. Seems its open season to break the sites "code of conduct" - and Mr Smith (aka site admin) does nothing to stop it... Lovely forum this.

The other chap "handy" is obviously not reading the posts - as I've already mentioned that the motorways around here are all 2 lane... Leading to a worse problem if you have to pull out and overtake in l2 at or around the legal speed limit - ie not having a l3 to avoid captain flash in.

When driving on the 3 lane the problem is reduced - but I still find it hard to believe you've never been tailgated or flashed - your maybe not aware of the fact...

Just to highlight the point - the bbc had a programme today on radio scotland - and the highest gripe on the list were "tailgaters" - you know who you are - and you all call the slower drivers mlm's...

Another point to highlight on peoples perception of whats right and wrong and how selfish people really are -

In Edinburgh on the A8000 and A90 after the Forth Bridge is being heavily re-worked. There are a lot of workers very close to the road. The limit has been set to 30 mph for around 1.5miles for their "safety".

Now at the stretch of any imagination keeping to 30mph for 1 to 2 miles wouldnt be too difficult ??? You'd think?

Wrong - it would seem the most difficult thing in the world for people to adhere to... It also goes a long way to highlighting the selfish and dangerous manner in which most people are willing to flout the law and speed limits posted.

Now, no one on this site could condone such action when its there to protect the workers close to the side of the road - but I'm sure the regular posters will have another excuse for this sort of behaviour also.

Bottomline is that this same mentality slips into the speeds higher up and above the limit - if people show such a flippant nature to these poor workers - then what do they think of my or others safety at the higher speeds - answer nothing - they are wrapped in their little boxes and damned if they'll slow down no matter whats ahead...

And to think people on this forum try to make me out to be a bad and unexperienced driver - and that I should amend my legal ways.

I'm sure Mr Smith would be far better sticking to facts and proper comments than reducing his argument to the "chap thats not" telling the truth... Wonder if they'll report that one in the paper - me thinks not...

I am calling you a liar though peegee, and a liar again.

You have accused me of being a speeder when I am not, and unless you can substatiate your wild claims, then you are nothing but an obnoxious libellous troll.

You continually ignore the points of other posters, change the issue of debate, and accuse people of all manner of nonsense. You argue against points that noone is making, and ignore the ones that matter. You are utterly inept at the concept of debate, and are too arrogant to admit when you are clearly wrong.

On a 2 laner, looking for a suitable gap, pulling out, overtaking legally, and pulling back in after the overtake?

On a 2 laner, looking for a suitable gap, pulling out, overtaking legally then staying in lane 2 for no reason?

On a 2 laner, not bothering to look for a gap and pulling out for an overtake assuming no-one is behind you is going faster than you are?

If you are doing the first and getting flashed or tailgated, then I see no problem - it is the flashing or tailgating driver at fault. It's possible that I've missed the car behind me in the 3 mirrors, and missed the flash of lights, but I think unlikely.

If you are doing the second, and getting flashed or tailgated a lot, do you think there is anything that could be changed in your way of driving?

If you are doing the third, you deserve to be off the road.

Now then, rereading your post I'm interested in this statement:

Quote:
as I've already mentioned that the motorways around here are all 2 lane... Leading to a worse problem if you have to pull out and overtake in l2 at or around the legal speed limit - ie not having a l3 to avoid captain flash in.

Specifically this bit:
Quote:
if you have to pull out

does that mean that your lane change into lane 2 was not a planned manouevre? Instead, you have HAD to pull out all those times? Perhaps that's another difference, why I haven't been (to my knowledge) flashed during an overtake.
