Just four per cent of rural road accidents involve exceeding the speed limit, according to figures released by the Department for Transport after a freedom of information request from Safe Speed's Paul Smith. This contrasts strongly with the DfT's previous line that 30 per cent of accidents involve speeding - see pages 4-5.
