Last week or the week before Darling went to gas and electricity suppliers (private companies) and told them he wasn't impressed by them increasing their prices by 15% and that they should not do it because not everyone would be able to afford it.

Which is odd. These gas and electricity suppliers have to buy there commodities on the open market, and pay the going rate. Some times the "going rate" has gone up because of political meddeling. Any fluctuations in price have to be passed on to the consumer. Also consumers are still free to shop around.

Last night I purchase 45.18 litres of unleaded, this cost me £46.04. But Darling had £6.86 for VAT, then £22.987 for duty so the petrol only cost £16.19, that's 35.84 pence per litre.

How can Darling complain to private companies who charge the going rate when he has nearly trebbled the price of another commodity and does so with impunity?

And a goodly proportion of that £16.19 also goes to the treasury as PRT!

What was interesting was that although we in the UK have liberalised (think I heard it called ) the gas & electricity market (and from memory at the behest of Europe ) Europe has not and still have single suppliers who have the capacity to buy cheap fuel from us at times of plenty, store it and sell it back at a profit ,when we need it - not so much meddling I'd say as total incompetence on some official departments behalf - or as proved in times past - par for the level of intelligence and forethought of our great gov't.

A lot of that is due to the fact that although we produce an awful lot of gas, we no longer have the storage capacity (5% of annual useage), hence the selling off to Eu who do have a lot of capacity (20% quoted of annual useage) what they then dont use leading up to winter they then sell back to us. As said, at grossly inflated prices, because they can and our government do not have the hairys to do anything about it.

Also, the greatly inflated buy-back price is passed down to us punters, which attracts a higher VAT return for Brown and his Thieves. No wonder they don't kick up about it!

Damn their eyes...

No, because you will only do something silly with it. Nanny Brown knows best. Now go to sleep my dear and don't fill your head with thoughts that will frighten you - Gordon is in charge an he knows what's best for everyone.

Especially Gordon...
