Ryan and Kane get a glowing report
for road safety work at school

A SPECIAL road safety event took place at Westminster Community Primary School in Ellesmere Port to highlight the hard work of its two Junior Road Safety Officers.

Year six pupils Ryan Vickers and Kane Barlow have shown total dedication to their roles and are fully committed to promoting road safety.

To acknowledge their hard work Cheshire County Council's Road Safety Unit and Cheshire Police staged an event in which groups of pupils were shown how a safety camera is used to gauge the speed of moving vehicles. And the children were able to try out the safety camera for themselves.

Central and Westminster County Cllr Derek Bateman said: "Both Ryan and Kane have received a glowing report from their head teacher about their expertise and hard work carried out to highlight the road safety message to all the school.

"Their role is very important and I would also like to offer my congratulations for a job well done." Said head teacher Sue Finch: "Children at the school who wanted to be Junior Road Safety Officers were asked to carry out presentations saying why they wanted the role, "Ryan and Kane carried out a power point presentation and since being chosen have worked very hard.

"They are fully committed to their roles as Junior Road Safety Officers and I know the boys were thrilled with the special event."

Now I’m all for road safety being taught at school however, I’d be very interested in knowing exactly what these children are being taught. I could be wrong but I have my suspicions. :(

Yes, I imagine Ryan and Kane know lots about speeding child killing motorists but little about how to cross the street safely.
