My personal opinion (and that of all my work colleagues) is that the man is a good for nothing, utterly f**king useless, stuck up, self righteous, first class c*nt.
And while our civil liberties are slowly being eroded away as each day passes, I do believe that there is no law (yet) against voicing a personal opinion.

With any luck, somebody will anonymously mail him a link to this thread so he can see exactly what we think of him.

You're not one for beating around the bush are you? And a good thing too! :D

Presumably you're banking on not being identified from your username or any of your posts. Thereagain maybe you couldn't care less!

He does look like a complete nightmare to work for BTW....

I'm a dying breed, but that doesn't stop me from calling a spade a spade.

I have a very strong suspicion that he will know exactly who I am, but even if he could do anything about it he wouldn't have the bollocks to see it through.
Thinking about it, he would make the perfect MP because he promises us everything and delivers sweet FA.

As for caring, I couldn't give a flying f**k.

Amusingly you could also now describe the working class as the non-working class, cos the old working class now relies on welfare. A whole new class! (I call them thieving scum cos I'm middle class)

mmltonge,

Hmm, that's a D2 view.

It was meant as a joke :| (the bit about thieving scum - I do think a whole new class has been created)

mm,

Irony never travels well on web forums. I'm always having to explain my jokes!

hairy,

One of the most negative features of the old English class system was to look down on tradespeople when the ones doing the looking down were second generation from tradespeople themselves.

Where is this going? Is there such a thing as 'class' i don't think so not in the old sense....but there are demographics.

me.

grandparents, professional/business (one privately educated)

parents, underachievers (dad privately educated)

uni degree, senior management role.

read the Telegraph, avoid ITV, live in a decent village

one long haul holiday (usually skiing) per year,

Civil,

Middle class IMHO. To make upper class you would need to be living off inherited wealth, preferably land.

Class, couldn’t care less, put them all on a deserted island and see who survives, that would sort them out.

I'm old fashioned, my class system goes

Capitalists/Haute Bourgeoisie
Petty Bourgeoisie
Proletariat/Working Class
Lumpen Proletariat

(Nowt's changed since the old days expect that the Lumpens now rely on benefits to survive)

As someone who owns none of the means of production or any business, no shares/stocks etc, and sells his labour to live - I'm working class.

Nor do I Gix, it makes not a jot of difference to me and wouldn't change anything if I was told which class I fell into. I've done reasonably well up to now and I just don't care; that said its probably middle class although I've spent most of my working life up to my neck in muck and bullets.

Gixxer wrote:
By contrast, the Technical Director at work (Ian Lake) is without doubt one middle class, stuck up c**t who thinks that anybody below him in the company hierarchy is on the same rung of the evolutionary ladder as dog sh*t and occasionally makes the mistake of treating us as such (it really is a shame that gratuitous violence in the workplace is an instant sacking offence).

:rotfl:
I have to say that I find the typical middle-class goon such as your tech Director there Gix, to be the most hilariously anal, money-fixated and inadequate people on the planet.
And yep, I agree with Dixie too. Put everyone on a desert island and see how far we all get without relying on credit cards and property equity.

I had no idea i was aspiring to be so. Thanks.

Wheres all this going? You have a hypothesis, care to share it or are you going to keep us hanging on? I'm guessing you have a view that the majority of posters here are of a certain class...?

Civil,

Please don't think that I'm prying for the sake of it or making any assumptions about the folks here. No, my hypothesis is that we can discover our class roots by looking at our ordinary daily habits much more accurately than by current income, property etc. It can be small things that tell us so much. Food is one indicator I think.

Clothes are another. My polished leather brogues, woolly jumpers and scarves, rumpled cotton or tweed jackets and cord trousers are almost der riguer for the academic of a certain age.

I once went to a colleague's party in blue denim jeans, blue denim jacket and a white tee shirt and trainers. He was stunned and never invited me back. I didn't even have to get out my roll up baccy tin to complete the picture of class unacceptability.

C.

This thread is the biggest pile of bullsh*t I have read on these fora in a very long time. Talk about your pointless arbitrary divisions...

Hi Robin,

I think that you are definitely right about this. Class divisions are a pile of (what you said). It's amazing that we are so deeply defined by them, despite many decades of socialist governments in the UK since WW11.

You sound a little defensive on this subject. What class do you feel defines your life?

Quite!

Insofar as "Class" exist at all, there are ony two. Those who rule and those who are ruled

"Class" as we are led to understand it is a ficticios concept created by politicians (The ruling class if you like) to set the people against one another and make us easier to controll!

Dusty,

You are spot on about the rulers and the ruled.

My grandfather was an English country landowner and his workers lived in tied estate houses. They couldn't do anything without his permission. They were tied just like the houses they lived in.

In the evenings he used to walk around his land carrying a loaded revolver, in case any of his 'people' were thinking of doing some poaching.

I agree to a certain extent Robin, these divisions exits inside the computer of the marketing team at places like Tesco.
But in the everyday world people are still categorised by how they look, where they live and what they do. Say the word 'chav' to a colleague in the crewroom and they'll know generally what sort of person you're talking about. Roy Keane hit the mark with a lot of football supporters (and latterly Glastonbury festival attenders) when he used the term 'prawn sandwich brigade' in reference to a certain type of person who attends these events, but add nothing to the ambience and antmosphere they've gone there to sample, just so that they can say to their friends that they have 'done that'.

beg to correct you there - Tesco do not give a hoot about anything called "class". They use real facts to create a taxonomy of purchase history and propensity to purchase. None of these is defined as "class".
