Many motorists have long suspected the police of being a little too enthusiastic in their fight against speeding.

And their worst fears look like being confirmed by this scruffy blue van.

Yeah. Interesting that they fitted a tow ball and GB sticker as well as repainting. I generally look for tow balls and GB plates as these are a good guide that the vehicle is not an unmarked police car/van or talivan.

What possible justification can there be for covert vans, cameras etc. if the object is to slow drivers down? We, of course, know that this is not the real purpose.

Rather than on remote roads in the Peak District, why don't they park this van just up the road from a school at 08.30 to protect the children? Answer - they would not issue any tickets.

The van owners (The Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership) are in a spot of bother as they didn't tell DVLA they'd changed the colour.
They've now admitted to being wrong - Derbyshire Police previously claimed the requirement to notify DVLA of vehicle colour changes did not apply to the sneaky camera van because the new paintjob was “temporary”. (from MCN website).

Now you'll get no arguement from me that too many bike riders die as a result of punching holes in the scenery and the number of near misses will be huge and that the Peak District is a bit of a playground. But a modest busting of the stupid new 50 limits that have broken out like a rash across the area on even a modestly powerful bike (like say a TDM :D ) is very easy. (any Troll thinking of making a predictable remark about this may only do so if they have ridden big modern bike).

So is the van about handing out FPN to all and sundry for doing 57mph in a dumb 50 limit (do a search for A515 for a typical example) or tackling the small genuinely dangerous hardcore who ignore all the speed limits. Tricky one that.

With their policies not working and the side effects mounting they are beginning to have to resort to using Highwayman tactics to rob the poor traveler.
It is so sad that this sector of the Country find it in them to even morally justify such tactics.
Now not satisfied with this, they wish to make everyone, paranoid about everything parked on the side of the road.
I wonder if they know how that 'sounds to', and 'rests with' the public?
I see an ever widening gap between the Police and the public. :(

I reckon it should be siezed and crushed  That's what they would do to our vehicles if the DVLA database didn't match.

So let me get this straight, in attempting to enforce the law they commit an offence, what credibility do these clowns have?

They have painted a police camera van that cost the tax payer thousands of pounds to convert from a standard van in to this wreck of a van using tax payers money devaluing a good police van by thousands of pounds just to catch a few people over the speed limit someone should loose their job for this misconduct and vandalism of a police vehicle, rant over.

Let's not forget Derbyshire is now the land of the mind-numbing 50 limit

Tantamount to extorsion IMHO. :x

I now avoid the A515 and use 'C' roads that go through a couple of villages, instead, but at least they're NSL berween the villages!
