If a council was to conduct a survey, and invite responses, along with names and addresses, and telephone numbers, is it right to make every one of the answers available on the internet, along with the names addresses and telephone numbers of the respondents? :?

As a result, anyone could contact those who answered, and harangue them over the answers they gave.
It doesn't seem right to me!

Anyone any thoughts on this?

No.

Certainly not without explicit permission.

Even with permission they are likely treading on dodgy ground.

In that case, take a look at this... http://www.bolton.gov.uk/pls/portal92/url/ITEM/3AEFF460AD555243E0440003BA1DCDD2

You might WANT to contact one or two of them to discuss their responses.

I wish to congratulate one or two for their forward thinking - and thanks to Bolton Council we have the means!! :o

You are creating more obstructions. If these have the same impact that other traffic calming measures have had you are just going to increase congestion and journey times. Such measures do not stop people going through red lights at the Crompton Way/Bury Road junction. What happens to cyclists between the coloured areas. Spend the money on prisons instead!

Just get on with your plans, I don't know why you send out questionnaires because at the end of the day you'll do what you've planned.

This road is not wide enough for refuge islands and certainly not for bloody cycle lanes. When the bastards on bikes start to pay £160 road tax I will stop driving in them but not until.

I'm appalled to be honest though that these peoples details are there for all to see!

Jeez! :o That's awful!

So am I! Making people's names and addresses available without their permission is always completely unacceptable, but when they've commented on something potentially controversial like this, the possible consequences are eye-opening. What if the survey had been about speed cameras, and S***drift and co had got hold of the names, addresses and phone numbers of those who were against them? Abusive phone calls would be the least of their worries. This is a serious breach of trust, and it's by no means just a matter of principle.

I note that one of the respondents was a councillor, so if he finds out about this (and it should be pretty easy to get hold of him ) then hopefully he'll deal with whoever was responsible.

I agree with more of the comments than I thought I would though, which I'm pleased about. I think people in general have finally had enough of their journey times being artificially lengthened by various "improvement" schemes. One of my favourite comments was this one though:

After contacting one or two of the people on the list, I seem to have stirred up a hornets nest!!

An ex-councillor, and a serving councillor have contacted me by telephone tonight, to find details about where the information was, AND they were both fervent road safety enthusiasts, with forthright views regarding traffic management!

I did extend an invitation to visit Safespeed!

I'll keep you posted! :)
