The synopsis says:

"A focus on two very severe collisions on the A38 by vehicles allowed to travel up to 70 miles per hour, resulting in the death of a pedestrian and serious injuries for a cyclist".

I wouldn't want to pre-judge the program, but it sounds like it may be a government propaganda film to promote their "Speed Limit Reduction Program", err sorry, that's "Speed Limit Review", and promote the use of speed cameras.

Let's see with an open mind whether, as the synopsis states, it was specifically the speed limit being too high that led directly to a death and a serious injury.

The first question arising of course is what business does any pedestrian have being on a 70mph highway?

Or a cyclist, for that matter!

I suspect they have their facts wrong (yet again).

A 70mph road would have to be a motorway or dual carriageway and, whilst there may be short sections of NSL dual carriageway that cyclists and pedestrians use, I'll bet they actually mean an NSL single carriage-way country road of 60mph (that's 60mph for cars, of course, lower than 60mph for some other vehicles).

But let's not pre-judge, may-be they did get that one single fact right (It would be a 1st !).

It's perfectly legal to cycle or walk along a dual carriageway as long as it's not a motorway - it's just not very sensible. If you drive along the A12 at weekends you often see time trialists riding along. It always seems crazy to me when there are so many roads they could use that don't have 70mph traffic.

Its not unusual for cyclists and pedestrians to be on or alongside a 70mph DC.

Likewise A14 ,between M6 and A1,plenty of "Beware of Pedestrians" signs ---nnever in all my years of driving this bit everv seen anyone brave enough ( or perhaps stupid enough) to try to cross it .Suspect last person got to central reservation and died of starvation /dehydration waiting for a break in the traffic
