So Lancs police paid £600 for the flight to the conference and the rest was (reading between the lines) paid for by the conference organisers. I assume this because only the £600 figure is quoted and if there was more spending they would have stated so.

£600 is very cheap for a jolly, it's the same price as half a road sign, so basically a like a very cheap way to reward the guy who came up with the (apparently successful) plastic glasses scheme that may also have had actual benefits too. Considering how much money the councils piss away every year on hair brained schemes and pointless road signs, I think these people really should find something better to complain about, it sounds like they're just jealous that they didn't get to go to Ibiza (I can't really understand why you'd want to go there though)
