And there we go - they singularly failed to provide answers to god knows how many questions, and rather than answer them, they'd rather shut the entire caboodle down.

Absolutely typical of the way SCP's seem to do business, which is a shame, because not so long back I genuinely thought CSCP were above all of that.

Me too. Just shows how wrong you can be!

Then again I also harboured a quiet belief that they were going to ensure they didn't turn a profit here in Cumbria, and I was way wrong about that too.

So it looks like all the cynics like Cooperman were right all along: it IS all about the money, and initiatives like the forum WERE simply to pay lip service to public opinion. In a way I actually feel embarrassed to have given them the benefit of the doubt for so long.

Anyway, I suppose the positive thing is that by removing that particular avenue of interrogation they will in effect funnel any criticism into other channels such as the local papers, which will probably be to our benefit in the long term. When you stop and look at it now, the existence of the forum did largely suppress all the negative debate that was going on in local papers like the Westmorland Gazette, so hopefully we can look forward to a resurgence of the debate within their pages.

Good points. CarlP & JT.

I actually find it quite frustrating and disappointing - a forum with a reasonable amount of involvement (and implicitly, readership) from "officialdom" / TPTB has been DELIBERATELY REMOVED.
It didn't "die", it was popular, it was wanted. By the public, anyway.

I suppose that they judged that it was the "wrong sort of public", and it may have been getting a little warm in the kitchen.

I hope that many, many people are made aware of what has happened, and the manner and circumstances in which it happened.
Not good publicity for CSCP.

Now they can hide behind closed doors. Something they have wanted to do for ages.

Really really shoddy behaviour.

The could have posted a "we're sorry but" message and locked the forum.

JJ, Steve, Kevin, Please explain yourselves.

Had to happen, all the replies as to why it should, or should not stay, and bam, gone anyway, with no word of warning, or explanation.

Hi Guys, just to put you in the picture. We have shutdown the forum while we assess all the feedback we have had regarding the closure. Normal service may be resumed in the not to distant future.

JJ

Why not just lock it to leave the wealth of topics discussed there visible to the public you serve? If you do that, no-one else can add anything to the forum, you get your chance to go through the responses, and you avoid all these cries of censorship...

So, with apologies to Messrs Cleese and Palin, it's not an "ex forum" then, it's merely "resting"?

"Pining for the fiords", you might say...

One unanswered question - the non-payment rate of FPN's is answered in the latest accounts. Steve said he had "no idea" but he would probably be out of a job if it was more than 5%.

It's 14%

Yes, perhaps it won't just be the Forum which is closed down...

Joking aside, I have been harassing them for some time on the forum to publish their accounts for 2003/4, to no avail.

The forum closed today (sadly I didnt have chance to look at it since Saturday), low and behold, the accounts were published today.... Cynical, moi??

Reading the figures, it is clear for all to see why they embarrassed by their tax collecting role. Many streetlights in Barrow have failed and need replacing - Cumbria CC has "no money" to pay for it. It was pointed out by the NW Evening Mail (www.nwemail.co.uk) the CSCP profit could have paid for the repairs.... :?

Have a look at the Lanca$hire scam report for a laugh - (in error??) it shows their FPN payment rate to be 0.78% - presume this should read 78% - well done to the 22% who defied the scammers....

Hi Chaps!
Just breezed in from the WELCOME! this forum is closed page.

I am seriously concerned having looked around here, that Aussie Adrian does not seem to have made it.
As the only non-staff pro-camera member I can recall, do you think we should send out a search party?
OK, perhaps not.

Before it closed, did anyone read Steve's response to my posts about Bannerig? I wish I had copied it all down!
