It seems to have got to the point that you don't vote for the ones you like the most, you vote for the ones you hate the least.[/quote]

Unfortunately - on that point I have to agree most wholeheartedly -and that sums up voting in the UK today .

This is particularly interesting as it's the Wiltshire partnership who do the M4 scamming.

But the question is, what is the scamera partnership's total annual funding? ie. what proportion of it do the council provide?
Without knowing that it's impossible to know whether the council withdrawing its support would mean cutting camera operations by 5%, 10% or 50%.

I doubt that the council will remove its support, it's just another lever to get more money.
Read through the partnerships reports....all is rosy...particularly, note the charts about "cameras are to get money" versus "cameras are to save lives"

Well, that report is 2.5 years old ... but yeah, it's by no means certain that the council will actually vote to carry through with this plan.

Was there always this amount of bulchit everywhere? :?

The newspaper title is "Council scraps speed cameras", but this is FALSE on TWO counts !

The council only PLANS to stop PAYING for their speed cameras.

What happens to the cameras depends on what funding Swindon council eventually decide to give the Wiltshire & Swindon Safety Camera Partnership (W+S/SCP), and what W+S/SCP decide to do.

Even if Swindon council end up not giving any money to W+S/SCP, the SCP could STILL maintain ALL the Swindon cameras out of their budget from elsewhere as a PR excersize saying they have to continue to prevent people dying. Of course they can STILL make BIG cash even from cameras they are not paid to maintain by offering "Speed Awareness Courses". The huge profits from Speed Awareness Courses could easily cover their costs without the council giving them a penny.

And that report (Wilts_fourth_year_report.pdf) is a masterpiece of trickery and deception. In some respects, you have to admire such beautifully crafted bulchit. It would be admirable if it weren't for the fact they are playing with peoples lives! :(

We been on holiday recently. We happen to drive through Wilts on way to meet up with other pals/family there. We find that Gatsos were within yard of each other on many roads there.... along with added scam van traps.

I think they now admitting that there has been an overkill in the cash raking policy to extent that these scams no longer viable

As for "saving lives" und the "research" - this "research" has not been "peer reviewed"  und the folk trying to make some "sense out of these "claims"" find that there ist no standardisation in way data collated .. und this skews all attempts to verify these claims.

Apart from the small fact that road accidents have increased overall.. more downright illegals are on road because traffic police numbers have declined.. :furious: und all the reports of road accidents seem to feature these downright illegals as prime cause :furious:

There ist one other peer reviewed fact though as far as the ordinary normally law abiding road user ist concerned ... things do regress to the mean .... helped by fact that engineering of car .. roads.. und education play largest part in keeping things safer.

I read somewhere that Wilts has the highest proportion of speed cameras of any county in the UK, followed by Somerset and Dorset. And lots of vans too.

Ha one of us contacted Swindon to see how much useful additional nitty gritty background information they can provide as to the political reality of the situation? Perhaps they can be persuaded to add an exposee comment in the anonymous whistle blowers section of this website...

Can honestly say we have never experienced the likes of what we exprienced in Wiltshire up here.. our own prat's fun and games seem small spuds in comparison..

The scams are not making cash... they have over-egged it all. Greed and not speed matters to these people

Have requested FOI on their scam stats after putting up with origin's pogo drive screaming every couple of seconds when in this area.. (Advertising comment.. that's one wicked little gadget.. it even knew where all the scams were abroad too .. and legal all the way as it does not have a laser doo-dah. You just update the database and their database seems incredibly accurate  We tested in a "Swiss back of beyond" and it was accurate in diagnosis of black spot and wheely bin scam .. but you have to programme by touching the map so you have to have some sense of geography to get full value out of this little cunning device

. I will not hold my breath as I already know that the likes of Baker/Mountain/Pennington/Walker could not gain access for their own research into scam "life saving efficiency"

I totally agree to sending letters to your councillors .... perhaps now they may listen more carefully. But I would advise that you re-phrase the letters, it would not be right for the same councillor to received the same worded letter from several of his/her constituents.

I am quite sure that Paul knows .... :)
