Hi folks

I'm new on this forum but it's already proving to be an interesting read.

Just have a very quick question. Does anyone know if the mobile speed cameras in Essex operate on the 10% + 2mph rule (like the ones in Kent, for instance)?

I went to the V Festival and a dual carriageway was temporarily made into 30mph limit with a BIG sign saying 'We WILL prosecute' and then a mobile van further on. I was only going 31, maybe 32 at most but when I see this sort of thing going on it makes me extra paranoid!

Many thanks.

Juv

Essex have to comply with the 10% +2mph like every camera partnership.

Also most car manufacturers make thier speedos under read by almost 10%. (even digital ones)
I often wondered why I was always late arriving when I had 70 miles to travel and I was traveling at "70" yet I would find somwhow I was left with a sprint to do at the end.

Many thanks, Anton.

I didn't realise every camera partnership had to follow that rule. And I have a Fiat so I'm pretty certain just about everything isn't quite accurate! :D

I think you mean over-read, i.e. if the speedo reads 32 mph you may only be doing 29 mph.

But do be aware that the scumbags do sometimes set the camera inside the van so it can move as the moves (strong wind, passing vehicles etc) it's how I got stuffed apparently doing 53 in a 40 in rush hour through roadworks - chance would have been a fine thing !!

Have had dealings with them, though to be fair the Essex trafpol are a pretty switched on bunch and are more likely to have a quiet word (they are not keen on the camera partnership, now calling themselves the Essex safer roads bureau).

They were also pretty busy at the V with an ANPR team, last year they got a load of untaxed and uninsured drivers. Caught a few drunk / drugged drivers as well.
