The Belfast Telegraph wrote:
Almost three quarters of UK drivers regularly speed — but motorists in Northern Ireland are the worst, according to a new survey.

Around 19% of British drivers confessed to going over the limit at least once a day and 23% speed about twice a week, the Co-operative Insurance poll found.

As many as 6% said they exceeded the speed limit every time they got in their car and only 27% said they never speed.

Northern Ireland drivers were most likely to speed, while motorists in north east England were least likely to do so.

More than two in five drivers said they slowed down when approaching speed cameras and speeded up again when they had passed them.

More than 40% of those polled thought speed cameras encouraged reckless driving as motorists were constantly braking and speeding.

David Neave, Co-operative Insurance’s general insurance director, said today’s fast pace of life means speeding has become “endemic” in Britain.

“People often don’t think about the dangers of driving a few miles an hour over the limit. But that can mean the difference between having a safe journey or a collision, and whether you survive or not,” said Mr Neave.

He added: “Like drink driving, speeding reduces a driver’s ability to judge hazards and to react to them. There needs to be a shift in people’s attitudes to speeding, so it becomes as socially unacceptable as drink driving.”
Anyone here covered by Co-Operative Insurance?
May I humbly suggest that you get a new insurance carrier?

Sounds as though someone is dipping into someone else's back pocket to me. :(

I hadn't read this article until you extracted this quote.

Quite incredible inaccuracy and spin.

The reason that people "don't think about the dangers of driving a few miles an hour over the limit" is that it isn't dangerous.

Speeding "reduces a driver's ability to judge hazards" does it. How exactly?

Utter tosh.

That's why I extracted it. I know it sounds 'truthy' to duh-masses, but that just proves the sorry state of driver education.
Besides better driver education, there also needs to be a shift in people's attitudes about BS, so that it becomes socially unacceptable to flap your mouth immediately after you've stuffed your head up your own behind, covering up the truth with offal, getting it all in our faces, and pickpocketing us while we're cleaning our faces.

If - for some strange reason - he doesn't know better, then he should. Someone who works for him does in fact know that what he just said is both a lie, and an insidious piece of misinformation designed to program sheeple and other induviduals to pressure others into believing the lie - and has the facts and figures to prove it [though they'd probably lose their job if they ewver leaked such info].

Every time a person in such a position lets fly forth such ... humbug ... it's very difficult for me to believe that they aren't lying 'with malice aforethought'.

I don't know how I'd discover this, but I wouldn't be surprised if he stood to profit from camera revenues separately from insurance premium increases; why would he say such a thing otherwise?
