Does anyone have a copy of Roadcraft prior to 1977?

From what I can tell, Sir Mark Everard Pepys' Ten Commandments of Motoring can be found up until 1977, and I was hoping someone could post them here ...

Yes I have a copy of 1977 Road Craft

Ten commandments are:-

1 Perfect your Roadcraft.

2 Drive with deliberation and overtake as quickly as possible.

3 Develop car sense and know the capabilities of your vehicle.

4 Give proper signals, use the horn and headlights thoughtfully.

5 Concentrate all the time to avoid accidents.

6 Think before acting.

7 Exercise restraint and hold back when necessary.

8 Corner with safety.

9 Use speed intelligently and drive fast only in the right places.

10 Know the highway code and put into practice.

It is interesting in Chapter 9, Speed and Safety, it says "Speed is frequently looked upon as something dangerous in itself, but it is dangerous only if used in the wrong place at the wrong time. Speed then is a relative thing.

What to a novice may be a dangerous speed is not necessarily so to a more experienced driver. The choice of speed must be related to the driver's ability, the type, condition and limitations of the vehicle and the prevailing road and traffic conditions bearing in mind that the safe speed for any given section of road may vary from minute to minute as circumstances alter" Of course this was written by driving experts and not edited to suit Government Policy.

Thanks Anton.

The errors never seem to show up until after posting, or the page has been printed.

I have exactly the same quote in my copy of Motorcycle Road Craft which I bought in ate 1989. There are also 10 commandments right at the end, very similar to the good Earls version.

Too similar to repeat? I'm asking because I wouldn't know.

Whatever happened to common sense - Hey !
And in addition, and hopefully this adds, there is :D

Paul's
Safe Speed 100 Word Highway Code :

Drive on the left. Make sure you can see and be seen. Keep a constant look out all around. Be aware of signs and regulations and why they are there. Be predictable.

Recognise and anticipate danger and keep clear space from it. Always ensure that you can stop within the distance that you know is clear. Develop your skills.

Give courtesy, co-operation and space to others. Don’t obstruct them.

Never take risks, drive unfit or compete with others.

Safety is paramount and far more important than priority. Take personal responsibility for your safety and the safety of those nearby.

Enjoy

Yes, and that's what we should be going back to. Let's get this country back on it's feet, and if it needs to be done without our masters, then so be it! I'll tell you what chaps, where I'm living now there is no such things as road safety, you’re on your own, but I’d I rather live here and take my chances and be "FREE" than live in the UK any day. (the way it is a present, that is)
