Hello,
This has been on my mind for sometime now.
Have asked most of the driver at work and all have said yes we see it also,
By the way I work nights
ok this is one of the things that happens a lot(nights)
driving along in lane 1 at 56mph not a lot of traffic(trucks well spaced out)
some cars(not a lot)
you get a car driving along just faster then 56mph in lane 2 or 3
then after the car has past you say 500yrds he/she brakes(just a small brake)
what for ? then you see them in the distance doing the same
what is going on in there mind,if going to fast take your foot off.
some times we look that far ahead judging the flow of traffic we never brake for hours at a time.
is it dum car drivers?

I've seen it too, and I am no truck driver!

Three other suggestions here to accompany your "dum car drivers".. theory. in increasing order of likelihood:

1) Very dum car drivers in automatics with left foot riding the brake

2) Faulty adjustment to a mechanical stop light switch making it highly likely that the brake lights may come on momentarily as the right foot touches the brake pedal or even as the feet flex in the footwell.

3) Faulty hydraulically operated stoplight switch on a servo-assisted car. Lift off the throttle, up goes the vacuum, up goes the assist, on come the brake lights . Equalibrium occurs and off thery go. All in perhaps 0.4 seconds.

I see it all the time and it is not confined to 56mph ,I see it across the board with speed limits and in the absence of any mechanical fault I put it down to what is commonly known as comfort braking when drivers drive along whatever stretch of road and brake ever so slightly as if they believe that they are overspeed.
